Definition of Humor

Any thoughts on what is positive and

negative humor?

Page 7: Humor.pptx

Positive Humor

•Never hurtful•Doesn’t degrade or injure another person emotionally•Always uplifting•Gives people a release of negativity that they may hold inside•Excellent way to connect to people

Page 8: Humor.pptx

Negative Humor

•Can cause hurt feelings•Destructive •Damaging•Usually is dirty jokes, and ethnic jokes•Putting down others•Sarcastic• Just plain RUDE!•Epidemic in school aged population

How to Develop a Sense of Humor

•Look for the unexpected!•Forgive the accidental •Relax and listen•Adopt a child’s perspective. Children see things in simple terms, with no subtexts of ego or concerns of what others think. Some of that freedom is a good thing, particularly if you tend to take yourself too seriously (Reynolds, 2013).
