Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less. C.S.Lewis Following on from last year’s entrance hall piece on values, we are delighted to welcome back Stu Mclellan who is once again working with well over 100 children to produce a wonderful new mural that will brighten up the playground. Stu worked with the children to gather their ideas and plan a design which hopefully reflects features of the local area such as class houses, the grand union canal and local flora and fauna. Once the art is fully completed, it will be covered with a UV varnish and panelled along the white sections of classrooms facing the playground. A big thank you to Travis Perkins building merchants who donated nearly £400 worth of wood for free, thereby helping to reduce project costs. Local Artist working with children | Stu McLellan Value of the month Our value of the month is Humility. We explored two imaginary boxers (Mr Proud and Mr Humble) and how even though Mr Humble might look weaker, he has the greater strength. The children also had the chance to talk about pride as a positive and negative concept after considering a story from the bible about Naaman, the proud commander of an army who refused to wash in the Jordan river to heal his skin disease. Being at the mid-point in the year, we will have new school council elections in the coming week so as many children as possible can have an opportunity to do this role from reception to year 6. Thank you school council Sports Relief Friday 21 st March is official sports relief day. We have a strong record of supporting fund-raising events. This year we will be supporting the cause through selling wrist bands (see picture right) for £1. If you would like your child to have a wrist band, the year 6s will be selling them at break and lunchtime on the day. All money raised will go straight to the charity. I have a waiting list of events the children would like to organise to help future charities and it is encouraging to see the children really warming to the idea of helping others and showing their values.
