Ms. Mascolo, an academic coach at Elm Grove Elementary School, is a National Board Certified Teacher. roughout her 16-year teaching career, she has facilitated service learning projects with Humble Elementary, Quest High School and Humble High School in- cluding the Monarch Watch Butterfly Project, Worm Way Busi- ness, Water Testing at Jesse Jones Park, and Saturday Garden Days. Robin Pullen, a special education teacher, brought the Best Buddies program to Kingwood Park High. Best Buddies allows regular education students to meet, befriend and im- prove the lives of individuals with disabilities. Ms. Pullen also started a tradition with her students: Before the Homecoming Dance, special ed students are invited to gather at J. Chris- topher’s for dinner and then attend the dance together. e event has grown in popularity from 16 in the group in 2003 to 68 in 2011. Mascolo is Region 4 finalist! Ana Mascolo is a finalist for Region 4 Teacher of the Year! is is the second consecutive year that our Elementary Teacher of the Year has advanced to finalist standing. Ana will be among five elementary teachers in the Region 4 area, which serves 53 school districts, interviewing for the honor. e Region 4 Teacher of the Year will be named on August 8. Congratulations to District Finalists for Teacher of the Year:
Each campus follows its own selection process for choosing a Teacher of the Year. All campus Teachers of the Year are invited to submit essays for consideration as District Teacher of the Year. Based upon the essays, finalists for District Teacher of the Year will be named May 7. Interviews with finalists will be held May 14. Following the interviews, a District Elementary Teacher of the Year and a District Secondary Teacher of the Year will be named. District Teachers of the Year represent Humble ISD in the Region 4 Education Service Center Teacher of the Year Contest. Region 4 encompasses 53 school districts, representing over one million students and more than 83,000 professional educators.
