Third Rail System
Technical assistance extended by OSAKAMunicipal Transport Bureau for 3rd rail current
collection and rolling stock design.
Air condition and ventilation of OSAKA Metrowas adopted as climatic condition are same i.e.high humidity and temperature.
Flat bottom foot 52 kg/m rail of high conductivity
(specific resistance being seven times that of copper)also known as rimming steel is used as conductor of
power at 750 V dc.
Overall resistance 0.029 ohms per km.

3rd rail laid as specially prepared bed on
the outer side of running track with
insulating high density polyethyleneinserts for fixing the conductor rail
mounting assembly consisting of 3.3 KV
porcelain insulator, galvanized mild steel
frame work for mounting FRP shroudboard on top and rear. 3.3 KV insulators
are spaced at 2.50 mt apart .
