Dear friends, Summer is here with a vengeance! We are in the middle of an oppressive heat wave. Have you noticed that when it gets hot like this, tempers tend to flare? I was talking with Mike Lewis, our Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. He pointed out that even the wasps get more aggressive and “angry” in the heat. What does that mean for us as Christians? With God’s help, we seek to keep our heads “cool.” Be aware that little things will probably bother you more in the heat. As the temperature outside rises, expect your irritability to do the same. That means you might have to work a little harder to bite your lip, hold your tongue and take a deep breath. I just reread the 3rd chapter of the Letter of James, and was reminded of how hard it is to tame the tongue. The key to mature Christian living is to treat one another with extreme gentleness. Re-membering that the way you treat others is a direct reflection of your relationship to God, the mature Christian views others with compassion. After all, we don’t always know the burdens and frustrations that others are carrying. And it doesn’t hurt to pray for a break in the heat, either! Thomas and I are packing this week, getting ready to go with our Youth on their mis-sion trip to Charleston, West Virginia. We will be leaving the church at 5:30 (am!) on Sunday morning. It has been over a dozen years since I have gone on a youth mission trip, so pray for me! We don’t yet know all that we will be doing, but we will be in the vicinity of the recent flooding. Pray for all of our youth, and for the people of Charles-ton that we encounter, that they may experience the love of Christ in our presence there. Bless you all, Brother Ed

Back to School Mission Project
We can all TESTIFY based on the HOT temperatures that SUMMER is here. In just about a month our children will be back in school. The middle school uniforms needs are for sizes girls 7-18/ juniors 7-15/women’s 10 -20 and boys 8-20/husky 10H- 20H/men’s waist 30-40 length 32 as well as cloth (military type) and leather belts all sizes. SUPPLY LIST: Clear or mesh backpacks, #2 Pencils, Wide & College ruled notebook paper, Composition books (black/white marble cardboard cover with NO holes), Glue Sticks, Kleenex tissue, Hand Sanitizer, Pens (black or blue), Disinfectant Spray (Lysol), Disinfecting wipes, Scissors (middle school), 3 prong pocket folders, Colored pencils, Markers, Construction paper. We are still working with our schools to set up our Back to School APPRECIATION LUNCH for their staff. Stay tuned for details in the next few weeks. We will need your help and also would love to hear your ideas on how to show our APPRECI-ATION. You may donate uniforms and supplies or make a monetary donation. Supplies may be dropped off in the Welcome Center. Checks should be made payable to HUMC with a notation of Back to School. We ask that you make your donations by Sun-day, July 31st so that we know what to purchase during the ‘tax free weekend’ which begins on Friday, August 7th. God is doing AMAZING working at HUMC. We are so blessed that He allows us to help him. Let’s Embrace our communi-ty schools and allow Jesus to work through HUMC and transform our community schools by showing His love and care.
