➤➤➤The situation During and after storm events large amounts of debris are discharged to streams, rivers and lakes through stormwater overflows of combined and sanitary sewer systems.Frequently, even the installation of scum boards is insuffi -cient to prevent such pollution. The polluting items, suchas sanitary products, toilet paper, faeces, plastic foils, etc.are not only unsightly but also responsible for consid -erable cleaning and/or disposal costs. On the basis of theDWA sheet A 128 (an instruction issued by an associationdealing with wastewater treatment) efforts to fundamen -tally improve the protection of waters in this sector havebeen increased. Particularly endangered receiving watercourses and nature preservation areas require more ex -tensive measures concerning the treatment of storm -water.

➤➤➤The solutionThe HUBER Storm Screen ROTAMAT® RoK2 is the idealsolution for this task, whether for new structures orrefurbish ment. The screen belongs to a group of finescreens designed for high flow rates at an extremely lowhydraulic resistance. Two-dimensional screeningguarantees a very high solids retention com bined withautomatic, gentle cleaning of the perforated plate.

➤➤➤The functionHUBER Storm Screen ROTAMAT® RoK2 screens arehorizontally installed at the upstream side of overflowweirs. A screw flight is mounted on a half cylinder ofperforated plate. As the stormwater flows through thehorizontal perforated half-pipe of the screen trough thesolids are retained. A screw, with a brush attached on itsflights, rotates within the semi-circular screen trough. Itcleans the screen and pushes the sepa rated solids gentlytowards the lateral discharge. The screenings remain onthe polluted water side of the screen from where they aretaken along with the waste water flow. During stormconditions the screen is auto matically started and thenworks fully automatically.

➤➤➤The installation conditionsThe HUBER Storm Screen ROTAMAT® RoK2 can be flexiblyinstalled on the left or right side of the weir overflow tooptimally meet different local hydraulic conditions. Even if the flow rate is low, the oncoming flow approaches thefull screen basket length and the screenings are removedgently without blockage so that a high separation perform -ance is achieved and the headloss minimized mechani -cally.

➤➤➤The applicationsHUBER Storm Screen ROTAMAT® RoK2 units can be usedfor a variety of applications in the combined sewagesector.To avoid another point of maintenance it is generally notintended to remove screenings from the structure.Instead, the screenings remain within the sewer or tankand are introduced into the wastewater treatment plantafter the storm event.
