What is this?
How did it all start?
• First used on clay tables for business transactions in ancient Babylon
• Then used in China to sign documents in clay seals
• Fingerprints weren't used for identifying criminals until the 19th century (1800s)
• Now: Iphone 5S?
How does fingerprinting work?
How can you record fingerprints?
Crime Scene Fingerprints
• Visible Prints – impression on surface such as blood, dirt, clay
• Latent Prints – sweat and oil reproduce fingerprints on glass, murder weapon
• Can’t see Latent Prints with Naked Eye, only powder, lasers, or light source (which we will do later!)
