METRO Friday, May 2, 2008 D RTÉ employees to strike for pension THE RTÉ Trade Union Group has confirmed the two largest unions, Siptu and the National Union of Journalists, have voted for industrial action over pensions. A spokesperson confirmed the group would arrange a meeting as soon as possible to decide what action to take on foot of the ballot result. RTÉ said it hopes the union group will consider invoking the assistance of the National Implementation Body. Up to 1990, all RTÉ staff were in a guaranteed superannuation pension scheme. However, new entrants since then have been in a defined contribution pension scheme, which carries no guarantee of final pension. Councillor helped businessman plan A PROMINENT businessman has told the George Redmond corruption trial he used the Fianna Fáil chief whip on Dublin County Council, the late Mr Patrick Dunne, to assist him in planning matters. Robert (Pino) Harris, who owns a truck distribution business, said the deceased Cllr Dunne would ‘do all the planning for us’. Mr Haris was speaking at a hearing in which Redmond denies receiving Ir£10,000 from Mr Dunne relating to a compulsory purchase order on a farm in north-west Dublin.
