Government in Mexico Present form of government began in, 16 September 1810

(declared); 27 September 1821 (recognized by Spain) The government was started by the local people, who

removed the Spaniards. They held elections in 2000 marked the first time since the 1910 Mexican Revolution that had opposition candidates.

The Founder: Padre Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla

In 1810 Hidalgo led a group of indigenous and mestizo peasants in a revolt against the dominant peninsular under the banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe. After clashes with the criollos and Mexican townspeople the group disbanded. Hidalgo was captured on 21 March 1811, and executed on 30 July.

Hidalgo's rebellion was the beginning of what would become the Mexican War of Independence. Although he was unsuccessful in his original aim, Hidalgo's efforts were followed by those of José María Morelos and Agustín de Iturbide who brought down the colonial governments of Spain in Mexico. Hidalgo is considered the Father of the Nation of Mexico.

Government Organization Mexico is a federal republic because it is

made up of state’s or federal entities. All of the federal entities make up the federation.

The government is a representative form because the people elect other people to represent them.

It is a democratic because individuals have the right to free choice.

Ana Guevara - began her sports success as a basketball player. Although she excelled on the courts, she switched to running at age 19. She has since become one of the world’s best runners of the 400-meter distance and a national hero in Mexico. She won the world championships in that event in 2003 and a silver medal at the Summer Olympics in 2004.

Emiliano Zapata - Zapata grew up in an area where many of the indigenous inhabitants had been marginalized by wealthy landowners. Although Zapata was of mixed Spanish and indigenous background, he soon began fighting for indigenous rights. He went on to help overthrow the government of Porfirio Diaz in the Mexican Revolution.

Holidays A float for the Day of the Dead.

Day of the Dead – (dia de los muertos) celebrated between October 31th – November 2nd, it is a celebration in that Mexicans remember and honor their deceased loved ones. Through it may sound gloomy or morbid, it’s not. It is a festive and colorful holiday. Mexicans visit cementers, decorate the graves, and spend more time there.

New Years celebration – Mexico has the biggest new years party and it’s held in Mexico city, where they will block off traffic. There will be stages set where bands will play from 5pm. At midnight there will be large fireworks. Then a fiesta will continue till morning.
