Initially, it was thought up to 50 jobs would go at the North West Independent Hospital, but direc- tor Liz Dallas has said that after the 30-day consultation the final figure was 69. This includes vol- untary redundancies. “The North West Independent Hospital regrettably had to embark on a redundancy consul- tation and selection as a result of the dramatic downturn in NHS referrals and the consequent reduction in work for staff,” Ms Dallas said. “The process was conducted throughout with elected represen- tatives from all affected departments and in compliance with the hospital’s legal obligation to its staff. “This has been an extremely diffi- cult time for all staff in the hospital with many opting for reduced hours and major restruc- turing to ensure job losses across all departments have been mini- mal as far as practically possible.” She added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their support throughout the process and their continued commitment to the hospital, its patients and staff.” She added: ”We don’t expect to have any more redundancies. We are here for business and the hos- pital will continue to function.” Limavady Mayor, Sinn Fein coun- cillor Cathal OhOisin said he was disappointed at the cuts, but hoped this would be the last news of redundancies in the Limavady borough. By PATRICIA DEVLIN [email protected] RUBBING shoulders with some of the biggest stars in the world is all in a days work for Limavady fashion intern Tim Ferris. The 21-year-old has just landed back from an amazing six months at one of the world’s top PR firms based in New York, and managed to fit in appearing on MTV, attending LivTyler’s birthday party and having dinner with Pixie Geldof and Agyness Dean, whilst he was there. The University of Ulster graduate flew out to join the team at the Peoples Revolution headed by fashion icon and agency founder Kelly Cutrone in May of this year, and since then has mingled with celebrities, attended the worlds most exclusive fashion events and is becom- ing a regular on MTV’s ‘The City’. “The last six months have just been amazing and I have made some really good contacts in New York; I’ll definitely be back.” says Tim. “I guess it all really started earlier in the year when I sent an email to Kelly Cutrone’s assistant asking if there were any internships available at the compa- ny. I explained that I was from Northern Ireland and I wanted to gain experience in the fashion industry, it wasn’t long after that, that I received an invitation from Kelly Cutrone to join the compa- ny.” The young Limavady man shot from coffee making to photocopying in a mat- ter of weeks and started working side by side alongside some of the world’s most aspiring designers including MTV star Whitney Port and Roxy Olin. “As time went on I got more confident and gained more respect from the agen- cies top people, including Kelly Cutrone and moved onto working on accounts for the company, which was a great privilege. Adidas, Jeremy Scott and Longchamp handbags were on the agency’s client list so in a matter of months I went from making coffee to working with some of the biggest brands in the world.” Tim adds: “I’ve met a lot of leading peo- ple in the fashion industry and a lot of big names; Debbie Harry from Blondie, Russell Brand, Kate Hudson and I attend- ed Liv Tyler’s birthday party as well. But you can’t afford to get fazed or star struck, especially with such a big company. It’s part of your job and you get on with it.” The former Limavady High School stu- dent is now becoming a regular on MTV’s most popular reality television series ‘The City’ which pulls in millions of viewers worldwide. “I don’t really get the hype and I never realised how popular the series was until I landed back here. It hasn’t really hit home yet that I’m actually on MTV, it definitely was an added bonus of the job.” “I got approached about the show by Kelly Cutrone, she called me into her office and asked me did I want to appear on TV. Then next of all I’m signing a con- tract with MTV in a boardroom.” The aspiring media profes- sional hasn't’t ruled out returning to New York to chase his fashion and PR dreams but says he wants to concentrate on a few projects and business ventures closer to home. “I wasn’t due back until later this month, but I came back early to surprise my mum. I have a few offers of work in London that I’m looking into, as well as a couple of local ventures; so I’ll see how these go over the coming months.” COMPETITION a city break in Liverpool with Norfolkline Irish Sea Rules: Texts cost £1 plus your standard network charge.
