• The pineal gland is an endocrine organ formed by cells with a neurosecretory function.

• The pineal gland is connected to the brain by a stalk, but there are no direct nerve connections of the pineal gland with the brain. Instead, postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers derived from the superior cervical ganglia supply the pineal gland.– Preganglionic fibers to the superior cervical ganglia derive

from the lateral column of the spinal cord. The function of the pineal gland is regulated by sympathetic nerves.
