Objective T o expose aspiring technopreneurs to the latest tools and techniques for efficient need identification, concept generation and practical implementation of ideas into a functional prototype. Approach This workshop is the first one in a series on innovation and management. The workshop consists of lectures and gui ded team-based exercises followed by demos of rapid prototyping tools. Participants will be grouped by the organizer in teams and will concentrate on multidisciplinary (engineering / science / medical / business) teamwork. Organisers Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, UKM Medical Devices Group, UKM UKM Medical Center Institute of Space Science (ANGKASA) Synopsis The first 2 days of the workshop aims to provide an accelerated overview of the Biodesign Process:a systematic and design- thinking approach to needs validation, invention and implementation of new biomedical technologies. Through executing case studies based on real-world clinical needs, the workshop will help participants appreciate the needs identification/ validation phases as well as the concept generation/selection phases of the Biodesign Process. The last 2 days of the workshop on electronic & mechanical r apid prototy ping will complement the above sessions. Outcomes • Knowledge in need and concept screening (to minimize the risk in high-tech ventures) • Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools (taking a concept to the level of a fully functional prototype) • Forming a network of experts and possible co-founders in future new ventures. • An official certificate of completion. Target Audience Professional engineers, medical doctors, academics, scientists, graduate & final year undergraduate students, all welcome!
