Borrows looks from its sibling, but not the class

• If both the E8 and its progenitor are kept side-by-side, it’s difficult to guess which one is which, without picking them up

• The location of buttons and various ports are also identical

• However, handling is a different matter altogether

No Duo camera...

• Unlike the innovative duo camera setup on its premium sibling, the E8 features a conventional camera

• A 13-megapixel BSI sensor at the rear is supplemented by an LED flash

• The camera app is similar, offering various adjustable settings as well as modes

• HTC’s Zoe is also available, allowing you to create short videos of up to 3.6 seconds

• The front is adorned by a 5-meg BSI sensor for selfies and video calls

… but a decent and super-fast shooter instead

• In terms of image quality, the camera captures ample detail, however it isn’t able to reproduce colours well

• That said, macro shots turned out great

• It loses out in low-light photography

• There is zero shutter lag, making it ideal for capturing action shots

Adds a sixth sense to Android

• The latest Android OS is on offer, layered with HTC’s proprietary Sense 6 UI

• It comes with HTC’s trademark customisations including BlinkFeed, Zoe and more

Pricing and verdict “At first, the idea of doing away with the biggest USP of the

HTC One (M8) – its 90 percent uber-premium metallic body – and replacing it with a polycarbonate shell felt absurd, but our

experience with the E8 begs to differ. The phone has its own distinct style and offers flagship-level specs at a more

affordable price point than its sibling. However, it still faces stiff competition from the Samsung Galaxy S5, thanks to its

slew of price cuts, as well as the Oppo Find 7a.”
