Disassembly - Step 2

Removing the Motherboard

With the motherboard exposed we have three (3) small Phillips screws (#00) to be removed.

The power button flex cable will also need to be released from the front housing. This is held in place with adhesive, gently lift this up and away from the housing.

The final flex cable on the left is a “pop” connector, simply lift this up using a plastic pry tool

Release this hidden jaw connector – use a pry tool to lift the white tab and remove the flex cable located inside. This is the touch screen flex cable

You can now flip the motherboard down, exposing two (2) more “jaw” flex cables. Lift the white tab on each connector and remove the flex cables.

Heating the Screen Assembly

Using a heat gun or hair dryer we can now heat the two (2) strips of adhesive holding the screen assembly to the front housing. Focus the heat on these two areas for about 30 seconds on medium heat. We also suggest heating the same areas from the front.

Removing the Screen Assembly

With the adhesive properly warmed, use a spudger or pry tool to begin releasing the adhesive holding the LCD screen to the front housing. This process can take some time, stay patient and aim for the two strips of adhesive using any hole available on the back of the housing.

Removing the Screen Assembly

The screen assembly should be fully removed as one piece – the LCD and touch screen digitizer.

Take note of the two (2) pieces of adhesive which held the screen in place.

When swapping out screens, apply new adhesive here if the old adhesive is not sticky

Reassembling the Motherboard

Feed your new LCD flex cable and touch screen flex cable back through the front housing

Once aligned, apply pressure and begin reconnecting the motherboard.

Begin with these two (2) flex cables on the back of the motherboard. Take your time and be sure they are FULLY inserted. Close the jaw connector once complete.
