HSK-200Z Z-Wave IR Control Station

Introduction

The HSK-200Z/210Z is a Z-Wave IR control station (Figure 1). As an IR controller it receives RF commands and sends IR signals through built-in IR transmitters or connected IR emitter cables. As a scene controller it arranges scenarios for lighting, AV system, projector screen, window shades, thermostat, etc.

The HSK-200Z/210Z can be used as:

An IR repeater for Z-Wave control hub (e.g. HSC-200) or portable controller (e.g. HSK-100Z) to control IR based equipments (e.g. TV, DVD player, etc.).

The smart power is implemented to control the on/off status of the IR-controlled AV devices. This enables us to control the power status of the AV devices reliability.

A scene controller for lighting, power meter, window shades, thermostat, etc.

Note: HomeScenario provides smart AV solution applied for meeting room or home theater usage. This includes control for lighting, window shades, thermostat, as well as AV system.

This user manual provides the installation process for the HSK-200Z/210Z and its supported Z-Wave command classes. The integration with Z-Wave compatible devices can be done according to the information described below.

Installation

The HSK-200Z/210Z is a standard Z-Wave AV control point. It can work with any Z-Wave primary controller or rotting slaves, if they support ASSOCIATION and CONFIGURATION command class. In the following section, we will use the HSK-100Z as example. However, we can use Z-Wave devices from other vendors as well. Please refer to the documents of those devices for more information.

To start with, please power on the HSK-200Z/210Z by connecting power jack to the power adapter (7.5V) included in the package. The power LED of the HSK-200Z/210Z will then turn on.

Feature List

Thanks for purchasing the HSK-200Z/HSK-210Z. These devices provide the following outstanding features, which is not available in other Z-wave devices.

Repeater/Extender for the Universal Remote Control

It is specially designed for the HSK-100Z for best user experience. However, it works with other Z-wave, which supports Simple AV command class.

Six zones

Support four lighting zones, one projector screen zone and one curtain zone.

Four scenes

Support four scenes which can be activated by the scene keys in the HSK-100Z or any Z-wave compatible scene controller.

IR blaster in scene

Support IR blaster in all four scenes. Each scene can define up to three IR signals. Smart Power Support Smart Power function which can reliability control the power of TV, DVD, projector or other IR-controlled devices. The HSD-400Z is used to monitor the status of the IR-controlled devices. The HSK-210Z can support up to four smart power keys.

Smart Projector Off

Support projector power control which can send multiple power key to turn off the projector.

Configurable scene

The scene can be configured to control all devices in size zones and send IR signals to control AV devices.

Smart Power

Support the power meter which can make sure the status of the AV devices.

Zone support

HSK-200Z/HSK-210Z supports four light zones and two projector/curtain zones. Each zone can be added to any of four scenes.

We will send BASIC commands to all devices in four light zones according to the following parameters.

Scene support

The HSK-200Z can work with any portable scene controller. The HSK-200Z support scene 1-4. The HSK-200Z will send IR signals and turn on/off devices defined in its 10 groups. Please refer to the following table for the default settings. Those settings can be changed via parameters.

Smart Power

Most AV devices do not have separate power on and power off keys. Instead, they use a single power key to toggle the status of the AV devices. Therefore, we can not turn on or turn off the device reliability. However, this is extremely important for an automated home theater or meeting room setup. The smart power feature of the HSK-200Z/HSK-210Z uses a power meter to make sure the status of the AV devices.

By using the smart power, the single power key becomes two virtual power keys. When we send virtual power on key, the HSK-200Z will use the power meter to check the status of the AV device and then send power key only when the device is on.

The HSK-200Z is designed to work with HSD-400Z. However, it can work with any Z-wave devices, which support METER command class.

Smart Projector Off

Most projectors need to press the power key twice in order to turn it off. The smart projector off feature enables us to send multiple power key when the virtual power off key is sent.

The parameter #### can be used to define the number of power keys be sent.

Easy Installation Mode

HSK-200Z provides an easy installation mode, which can configure the HSK-100Z/HSK-200Z/HSD-400Z in one minute. It will

When the HSK-200Z has been added into the Z-wave network, it will turn off the status LED.

Press the button of the HSD-400Z

The HSD-400Z status LED will become amber and blink.

The HSK-200Z status LED will blink and then turn off when the association is done.

Press the program button in the HSK-200Z.

OK LED blinks and turns off if the easy installation succeeds.

The Error LED blinks and then turns off if there is any error in the above procedure.

Please refer to the 'Add HSK-200Z to the HSK-100Z' section configure the HSK-200Z as the extender of the HSK-100Z.

Use HSK-200Z as scenario extender for the HSK-100Z

When the scene 1-4 of the HSK-100Z is pressed, the HSK-200Z can be used as scenario extender for the HSK-100Z to relay signal to other devices.

The HSK-200Z can

1. Send pre-recorded IR signal. 2. Send Z-wave commands to control four light

groups. 3. Send Z-wave commands to control devices in

the window shade group. 4. Send Z-wave commands to control devices in

the projector screen group. 5. Use smart power to control the of/off status of AV

device bi-directionally.

Adding the HSK-200Z/210Z to the Network

Put the HSK-100Z into inclusion mode by using ADD/DEVICE.

Press and release the program button of the HSK-200Z/210Z (Figure 2) by using a needle. The device will broadcast node information and enter learning mode.

The HSK-100Z will add the HSK-200Z/210Z into the Z-Wave network and the OK LED turns on. If there is any error, the Error LED will be on instead.

Removing the HSK-200Z/210Z from the Network

Put the HSK-100Z into exclusion mode by using DELETE/DEVICE.

Press and release the program button of the HSK-200Z/210Z by using a needle. The device will broadcast node information and enter learning mode.

The HSK-100Z will removing the HSK-200Z/210Z from the Z-Wave network and the OK LED turns on. If there is any error, the Error LED will be on instead.

Plug the HSK-10 IR emitter cable into either phone jack of the HSK-200Z/210Z (Figure 3).

Z-WAVE CONTROL

Z-Wave Device Class for the HSK-200Z /210Z

The HSK-200Z/210Z is implemented as a Z-Wave multi-channel device which supports 8 instances of AV control generic class and one instance of semi interoperable device. The controller which recognizes the HSK-200Z/210Z must use the manufacture command class to identify the HSK-200Z/210Z and then use proprietary command class to instruct the HSK-200Z/210Z to learn the IR signal. However, the standard simple AV command class is used to send the IR signals.

Supported Command Classes

The HSK-200Z/210Z is an AV controller which supports the following command classes:

Multi Channel Class

The HSK-200 has 9 channels. The channels 1-8 are mapped to the eight AV channels and the ninth channel are the scene devices.

The un-capsulated simple AV commands are mapped to the channel 1. The basic, association, scene activation and configuration are mapped to the channel 9.

BASIC Command Class

The basic command class is mapped to the scene activation command classes. The value of it is the scene ID. If the value is higher than 4, it will be mapped into 2. If the ID is 0, it will be mapped to the 4.

The basic get will return the last invoked scene.

If the basic is 99 or 0xff, it will be used to activate the presentation mode.

The simple AV control can be used to send IR signals from the internal database.

The HSK-200 supports the following groups:

This configuration command classes allow us to fine tune the behavior of the HSK-200Z/210Z.

The HSK-200Z/210Z can emit a number of IR signals when we enter or leave certain scenarios. The following is a table for all supported keys and their mapping on the HSK-100Z. If you are using the generic Z-Wave gateway, we can use the Z-Wave field to get the key index. If you are using the HSK-100Z, please use the HSK-100Z field to press the correct key.

Power Meter

Adding Power Meter

The HSK-200Z/210Z supports up to four power meters. They are associated to the following IR codes, which is setup by using the learning function.

We can use the ASSOC key of HSK-100Z to include a power meter. Please use the following table to select the group to associate.

Add Learning Keys

When HSK-200Z/210Z is an extender of HSK-100Z in a specific channel, it can relay preset database or learning keys of HSK-100Z. To add a learning key, use the following steps on HSK-100Z:

purpose for each key.

The LED of the HSK-200Z will stay on.

Point the remote which need to be learned to the IR window of HSK-100Z and press and hold the key we want to learn.

The OK LED of HSK-100Z will blink if the signal is learned correctly.

If the learning fails, the ERROR LED of HSK-100Z will blink.

Add IR Keys

The HSK-200Z/210Z provides 16 IR keys which will be sent in pre-defined scenarios. Please check the IR Key Table section for the definition of all keys. These keys can be programmed by using the RS-485 pins. Please use the RS-485 programming guide for the detail about how to program the IR keys.

In addition, the HSK-100 can be used to start the AV learning. The method is

The LED of the HSK-200Z will stay on.

Point the remote which need to be learned to the HSK-200Z and press and hold the key we want to learn.

The LED of HSK-200Z will turn off if the signal is learned correctly.

In the same time, The OK LED of HSK-100Z will blink and turn off.

If the learning fails, the LED of HSK-200Z will blink and turn off and the Error LED of the HSK-100Z will blink.

6 Repeat the procedure 1-5 for another key.

Note: RS-485 is only supported by the HSK-210Z.

Define Number of Keys for Power Off

For most projectors, we need to press power key twice in order to turn off the projector. We can use the configuration #5 to define the number. This is for the projector IR power only. If you have more than one device need to send multiple power keys, you need to have another HSK-200Z/210Z.

Curtain

The curtain or window shades can be added into the curtain group. Actually, any motor device can be added into group 3.

We can customize the behavior of the projector by parameter #16.

Projector Screen

The projector screen will be lower only in the presentation mode by default. Please associate the HSK-300Z or other projector motor controller into the group #4.

We can customize the behavior of the projector by parameter #15.

Lighting Control

In order to add lights into different scenarios, you can use the following procedure at HSK-100Z.

Press Add Press Scene Press the number 1-8 Press the device button, which can send a Z-Wave

Node Information frame. Adjust the device to the desired setup. Press the Scene button

Devices can be added into different scene key by using different values so that we can define the status of devices in different scenes.

However, light defined in the above procedure can be activated from the HSK-100Z only. The HSK-200Z/210Z support four light groups

Extra light group B By default, the main light group is turned on at scene 1, 3. The Aux light group is turned on at group 1, 2, 3. The extra light group A and B are not used by default. We can change the turn on/off scenarios in configuration #9-#19.

Factory Default

The factory default can be activated by the following procedure.

Remove the power Press and hold the button Put the power back. The LED will blink for five seconds and then the

system will be restored to the factory default.
