Hall directors (HD) at Texas Christian University (TCU) are provided a stimulating and enriching work experience as members of a strong housing professional team within Housing & Residence Life, a valuable component of the University’s Student Affairs family. Located just five minutes from downtown Fort Worth, Texas, TCU is a vibrant community experiencing amazing growth. Our lively residential community allows you to learn and grow as a housing professional,

and you will reap the rewards of being part of a university that is forward-thinking and ahead of the curve.

Our Housing & Residence Life team creates and implements programs and services specifically designed to encourage residents to contribute to their communities and appreciate the diversity in TCU’s residence halls, our campus and society as a whole.

As a hall director at TCU, I have gained a better understanding of the bigger picture of what we do for students. We don’t try and complete things just to get them done. We make sure what we are doing has purpose behind it that betters our students. Evan Saperstein, Hall Director

TCU is truly a perfect environment to learn and grow as a young professional. We have many opportunities to work with other departments on campus, allowing hall directors to develop insight and a skill set that could be useful in future jobs.

Christina Coovert, Hall Director

Think ing About A Career at TCU?

Communities

Caring

Tradition

As a new Student Affairs professional, you want to be in a dynamic environment. At TCU, you will see a devoted focus on developing relationships, meeting student needs and creating a community that cares for one another. Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr., has a vision of TCU as a robust residential campus that houses nearly two-thirds of its undergraduate population on campus which means a significant growth and development of the residential program. Between 2014 and 2017, the next phase of growth will take place and include 1,900 new beds in our Worth Hills Village.

As a hall director at TCU, you will enjoy being a part of a strong Housing and Student Affairs staff. You will have a great deal of autonomy for decisions in your hall, and a great deal of support from your colleagues. Our hope is for hall directors to become generalists in their work. It is important to experience many opportunities within Housing & Residence Life, but also with other University and division initiatives. You will be encouraged to participate in departmental and divisional committees, and you will be provided with many professional development opportunities.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with students who are very special, have dif ferent interests and backgrounds, and who want to help and connect with others. Our students are active in their community and really capture your interest with their potential and ambition.

We have incredibly high-achieving students who make our job fun! Being a resident assistant at TCU is a competitive job that is sought after by many… it is a cool thing to do. Having RAs who want to do their job and enjoy their job sure goes a long way.

Miles Oller, Hall Director

The TCU Hall Director position, who reports to an assistant or associate director of residence life, is a full-time (12-month), live-in professional position that carries responsibility for administering a comprehensive residence life program in a hall of 200-390 students. While serving as a leader in the formation of residential communities that reinforce the educational mission of the institution, the HD works collaboratively with others within Housing & Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs. The HD position requires enthusiasm, a strong work ethic and initiative. The HD is expected and encouraged to create initiatives that are consistent with the mission of the department to meet goals and objectives set for the residence hall. Evening and weekend hours are required.

Work ing in Our Depar tment

I love the school spirit TCU students have. It’s a spirit that goes beyond being painted and dressed up for football games, it motivates and encourages them to put forth their best in everything they do. Students at TCU are highly active and involved in every aspect of the University. They are completely invested in the mission and vision of the University. I’ve never witnessed students who love their school as much TCU students do.

Varselles Cummings, Hall Director

Student-Centered

Residence Life at TCUThere are a variety of residential living opportunities at TCU. Double-occupancy rooms, coed halls, suite-style living and on-campus apartments are all part of the mix. While we require our freshmen and sophomore students to experience college life at

its best by living in one of our on-campus residence halls, many of our juniors and seniors opt to take advantage of what our campus community has to offer as well. You’ll see that Horned Frog pride runs wild across campus, and that pride carries over into the residence hall communities.

Housing & Residence Life’s Mission Statement: To develop inclusive, safe and educational residential communities by providing high-quality facilities, services and programs. Vision Statement: TCU Housing & Residence Life will be a leader in providing a world-class student housing experience. Motto: A caring community nurturing respectful relationships.

Church AffiliationTCU values academic achievement, personal freedom and integrity, and the dignity and respect of the individual. We celebrate a heritage of inclusiveness and service. These values flow from our long-standing relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a Protestant denomination committed to demonstrating true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice. There are 22 recognized religious organizations on campus, including groups for Christian, Jewish and Muslim students, faculty and staff. At TCU, students of all faith traditions are encouraged to explore their faith lives, their spiritual selves and their quest for meaning and purpose.

Fort Worth was once a rough-and-tumble frontier town, dusty and lawless – home to the brave and the brawling, the soldier, the frontiersman, the outlaw. Today, Fort Worth is one of the largest cities in Texas and the 16th-largest city in the United States. It’s a destination shaped by a commitment to its downtown revitalization and urban renewal as well as a dedication to its world-renowned cultural arts district, a rich pride in its Western heritage and a loyalty to major-league sports and family attractions. “Cowboys and Culture” isn’t just a tagline, it’s a way of life for Fort Worth citizens that provides a completely unique guest experience. Nowhere else can you find the Western heritage that is so quintessentially Texas – beautifully preserved and honored through Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District and Sundance Square in downtown.

The city leaders who celebrated Fort Worth as “Where the West Begins” also had the vision to establish it as the cultural destination of the Southwest. Fort Worth Cultural District is home to five world-class museums housed in a park-like greenspace, within

walking distance of one another. All are internationally renowned in their own right: the Kimbell Art Museum, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the National Cowgirl Museum Hall of Fame. Add to that our city’s coveted Van Cliburn Piano Competition, Bass Performance Hall, independent galleries, world-class symphony, ballet and theater programs.

Fort Worth’s reputation for being safe and friendly makes us a perfect getaway for families, as well. The Fort Worth Zoo is a top-five zoo in the nation and a national draw, and the proximity to major league attractions Texas Motor Speedway, Rangers Ballpark, Cowboys Stadium and Six Flags makes Fort Worth the perfect place to stay the night.

Cowboys and culture rarely combine in such a harmonious mix, but Fort Worth is a rare city that celebrates both in BIG Texas style.(Courtesy of www.fortworth.com)

Fort Worth is a big city, but it has a small town feel. The community is so great! Fort Worth especially embraces TCU – we have purple Fridays when everyone wears purple, even the high-rise buildings downtown which allows you to get in on special discounts at various restaurants and retail shops around town. I love the variety in restaurants and activities. Anyone can find their place in Fort Worth. Also, the location is great if you want to get away for the day or weekend. We are so close to Dallas and just a few short hours from Austin, San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country!
