Malware Malware includes viruses, Trojans, worms, and
other malicious files that disrupt your PC’s performance. They can make your browser:
pop up endless windows
block access to web sites
stop your virus protection
How PCs get “infected” :
Malware comes from software or other “executable” files that YOU authorize
Be careful what you download!
Even “safe” sites like YouTube and Facebook have been known to spread viruses
If a pop-up or dialog asks you to install something, only do it if you are sure it’s okay
We do not support any software other than that listed as officially distributed by WSU.
Free music/media is available legally via Pandora, ITunes, Hulu, Archive.org etc.
While you may install software as you wish, you do so at your own risk. The use of some software can be illegal and may jeopardize your status at WSU:
• LimeWire • FrostWire • BearShare • BitTorrent
Phishing
If you are ever asked to send your password to anyone at anytime, DON’T
WSU will never ask you for your password.
Phishing for your secure e-mail accounts or other accounts is a typical trick of identity theft and other scams
Forefront actively protects your laptop from virus threats by running in the background when your computer is on.
What to do if you suspect that your machine is infected with a virus: Perform a scan using Microsoft Forefront.
First perform a quick scan. Then, if nothing is found and problems persist, perform
a full scan. If virus is found - Click on REMOVE RISK.
For more information on viruses you can contact the Digital
Learning Center.

Make sure that you know what your print job will look like on the screen before actually sending it to the printer.

Let’s show you how to add a printer.
File Management: Difference Between C, D, and R Drives The C:\ drive is on the hard drive of your laptop.
This Is where all your programs are located when installed.
If your laptop crashes this will be lost. WSU can restore your C:\ drive to default settings at request.
The D:\Data drive is on the hard drive of your laptop.
This needs to be backed up by you!
If your laptop crashes this will be lost unless YOU have backed the files up to CDs/DVDs, an external HDD, or flash drive.
The R:\Student Store drive is on the WSU Network.
This is backed up regularly by WSU tech support and can be accessed from any laptop that is connected to the WSU network.
