Easy Setup

The HP 11807B software guidesyou through each step of optimiz-ing your cell site. When connec-tion changes are required, theHP 8921A graphically displaysthe connection diagram. TheHP 11807B follows the test andadjustment procedures recom-mended by the manufacturers.Clear labeling on the connectiondiagram eliminates errors andreduces the need to refer to thebase station documentation.

Visual and Audio Feedback

The HP 11807B Cell Site TestSoftware gives both visual andaudible feedback when adjust-ments are required. A largeanalog meter displays thecurrent reading while highlight-ing the specified tolerancerange. Audible feedback in theform of audio tones allowsadjustments to be made whenthe HP 8921A display cannot beseen. High and low tonesindicate high or low measure-ments while a repetitive toneindicates proper adjustment.

Flexible Configuration

Customize the HP 11807Bsoftware to fit your cell site testand maintenance needs. Oncespecific setups are developedthat fit your needs, store themfor further use on rugged, non-volatile memory cards. Test Results

The HP 11807B Cell Site TestSoftware displays measurementresults on the HP 8921A screen.Alternatively, send results to anHP-IB, RS-232, or parallel printerto document test results. Dualserial ports enable the HP 8921Ato control the base station undertest via the HP 11807B softwareas well as send test results to aserial printer. If archiving testresults is desirable, use optionalbattery-backed RAM cards tosave test results or store themto your PC.

TDMA

The HP 83204A TDMA CellularAdapter adds TDMA (IS-136)digital measurement capability tothe HP 8921A. It can be orderedstand-alone to add to an existingHP 8921A or as an HP 8921AOption 500 (HP 8921A/83204AOption 001).

The HP 8921A/83204A retains allanalog functions, plus adds thefollowing digital features:

• p/4 DQPSK signal generator

• p/4 DQPSK analyzer

• Bit Error Rate (BER) meter

• Adjacent/alternate channelpower measurements

Digital Measurements

TDMA measurement modes andsettings are accessed on a singletest screen. User setups providequick configuration of the testset to measure key TDMAperformance parameters. Thefollowing measurements canbe performed:

Automation

HP 11807B software fully auto-mates TDMA test proceduresrecommended by equipmentmanufacturers to optimize sys-tem performance. Time-inten-sive setups are eliminatedthrough powerful IBASIC pro-grams. Iterative tests such asreceiver sensitivity are com-pleted in a minimal amount oftime.

CDPD

The HP 83204A TDMA CellularAdapter has optional CDPD testcapability for installing andmaintaining CDPD MDBS RFinfrastructure equipment.HP 8921A Option 503 (HP 8921Aplus HP 83204A Option 003)configures the test set for bothTDMA and CDPD test.

CDMA

Test IS-95A/97 base stationswith the HP 8921A Option 600CDMA Cell Site Test System.This system consists of anHP 8921A Cell Site Test Set andthe HP 83205A Option 001CDMA Cellular Adapter. Exist-ing HP 8921As can be upgradedfor CDMA digital testing byadding the HP 83205A. (OlderHP 8921As require the OptionG21 upgrade for complete CDMAcapabilities.) The HP 8921Aretains its full capabilities fortesting the analog performanceof dual-mode CDMA base stations.

The HP 83205A CDMA Adapterfor the HP 8921A embodies anew measurement conceptcalled code-domain analysis.Because multiple users sharethe same transmit frequency,CDMA signals appear aspseudo-random, noise-likewaveforms. Conventionalanalyzers display signals byfrequency and cannot displayindividual code channels. TheHP 8921A/83205A measurespower in each code channel, aswell as measuring code-channeltiming and code-channel phaserelative to the pilot.

Power measurements are madewith a true-average powerdetection scheme to optimizecharacterization of CDMAsystem performance.Another significant contributionof the HP 8921A/83205A is itsmeasurement of waveformquality rho (r) for CDMA basestations. This new measurementwas developed by Hewlett-Packard to indicate the overallperformance level of the CDMAtransmitter.

CDPD

The HP 83205A CDMA CellularAdapter has optional CDPD testcapability for installing andmaintaining CDPD MDBS RFinfrastructure equipment.HP 8921A Option 603 (HP 8921Aplus HP 83205A Option 003)configures the test set for bothCDMA and CDPD test.

PCS

To assure high accuracy powerand sensitivity measurements,the software allows you to entercable loss and coupler lossassociated with connecting thetest set to your MDBS.

The software, included withHP 8921A CDPD options, guidesthe operator to make the properconnections prior to each test.Calibration factors such as cableloss and coupler loss can besaved to a memory card andquickly retrieved when testingdifferent sites.

CDPD capabilitycan be ordered with TDMA,CDMA, or analog test systemsby selecting the desired "500"or "600" option to the HP 8921A.Existing HP 8921As can beretrofitted with CDPD measure-ment capability by adding anHP 83204A or HP 83205A withthe appropriate option.

CDPD Test

CDPD MDBS test capability isdesigned to quickly and accu-rately test key RF parameters onboth the forward channel trans-mitter and the reverse channelreceiver. In addition, a snifferreceiver test verifies propersniffer functionality. Measure-ment procedures and defaultpass / fail limits are takendirectly from the CDPD systemspecification 1.1.

To perform tests on the MDBS, itis necessary to tap into both theforward channel TX path and thereverse channel RX path di-rectly, or with couplers. All RXtests and sniffer tests require theRX antenna be disconnected.

The HP 83236A PCS Interfacetranslates 1850-1990 MHz PCSsignals to the RF range of theHP 8921A, enabling the sameTDMA and CDMA measurementsperformed by the solutionsin the cellular band. Powermeasurements are performeddirectly in the HP 83236A tomaximize power measurementaccuracy and speed.

Adding the HP 83236A to exist-ing HP 8921A systems is a cost-effective solution for PCS-bandmeasurement capability. TheHP 83236A can be combinedwith existing HP 8921A systemswithout returning them to thefactory.
