Improving Your Spiritual Wellness
Introduction:• We should follow Jesus’ example of
singing spiritual songs.– This was foretold in the Psalms. Ps. 22:22;
Heb. 2:11-12– It was seen after Jesus’ last supper with the
disciples before His death on the cross. Mt. 26:30

great source of encouragement.
Various Types of Singers• Those who never sing.
– Some Christians are like this.– This directly violates scripture. Eph. 5:19;
Col. 3:16; James 5:13– Christians are commanded to sing.
• Those who sing begrudgingly.– Some may sing but from a sense of “duty” or
obligation.– Obligatory singing, like with giving is not
pleasing to God. 2 Corinthians 9:7
Various Types of Singers• Those who sing half-heartedly.
– Their mouths might sing but their heart is not in it. 1 Corinthians 14:15
– This type of worship is described as hypocritical. Mt. 15:7-8
• Those who sing to impress others.– Like praying, singing to be praised by others
is not pleasing to God. Mt. 6:5; cf. Eph. 6:6
• Those who sing and make melody in their hearts.– To praise the Lord and edify others. Ps. 95:1-
3; Acts 16:25; Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16
Importance of Proper Singing• To avoid sinning. Mt. 28:20
– Must make sure that we not make false promises, or refuse to sing, or sing inappropriately.
• To offer acceptable sacrifices.– Singing praises is a spiritual sacrifice to offer
to God. Heb. 13:15– God doesn’t want mediocre sacrifices.
Mal. 1:6-14
• To encourage others.– Singing is meant to encourage others as well
as yourself and to praise God. Eph. 5:19
Importance of Proper Singing

• To be richly blessed.– Singing is a way you can make melody in
your heart. Eph. 5:19– Singing can be a way of letting the word of
Christ dwell in you richly. Col. 3:16
Steps To Better Singing
• Involve your mind. 1 Cor. 14:15– We should do so with understanding what
we’re singing.
• Involve your heart.– We must sing with grace in our hearts to the
Lord. Col. 3:16– And we are to be making melody in our hearts
to the Lord. Eph. 5:19– We must put our heart into our singing,
otherwise our singing will be hypocritical. Mt. 15:7-8
Steps To Better Singing
• Involve your voice. Ps. 63;5; 71:23– Sing out and enunciate the best you can.
• Expand the sphere of your singing.– Singing like prayer should also be
spontaneous, arising whenever the circumstances call for it. Acts 16:25; Ps. 34:1-3
Sing To the Lord!
• David a man after God’s own heart loved to sing. Ps. 13:6; 57:9; 104:33
• He called on others to sing in public and in private. Ps. 149:1, 5
• We as followers of the Son of David (Jesus), should love to sing praises to God and spiritual songs to one another.
• According to God’s word, How well do you sing? Let us strive to be the best singers we can be for the Lord.
