• Buffer is a software application designed to manage social networks, by providing the means for a user to schedule posts to Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.

Let me give you a background on Buffer.

Who created Buffer?

Buffer was designed by a group of European expats in San Francisco and are headed by:

Buffer has three types of plans – Basic Plan, Awesome Plan, and Buffer For Business.

Let’s focus on the Basic Plan for this tutorial.


What are the features of the Basic Plan?


• Buffer allows users to schedule posts sent through the application to the user’s social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, App.net and Google+.

• There are various default timeslots in the application, which are based on the times during the day when social media users are most active online but Buffer does allow its users to mend or remove the default timeslots if they wish to do so .

• The free version of the application allows a maximum limit of 10 posts to be scheduled at any given time, and only allows the management of one social media account per social media website.

• Buffer also contains features that give post suggestions to users, and gives information on the number of clicks, retweets, likes, favorites, mentions and potential views each post has, which is based on the number of feeds that single feed would show up on.

What platforms is Buffer compatible with?


The Buffer application is compatible with three different platforms:

Browser: allows the application to work as downloaded extensions for three browsers, Google

Chrome, Safari and Mozilla Firefox.

Mobile: allows the application to be installed on iOS systems and Android phones.

Newsreader: allows the application to be integrated with various newsreader applications, such as

Flipboard and Zite.

Let’s begin the tutorial!


Go to Google.com.


Type the word “Buffer.”


Hit Enter.


Click this link.


This is the official homepage.


A little bit of history: when Buffer launched, it first allowed access to Twitter accounts.


Let’s sign in using Twitter.


Click “Sign in with Twitter.”


This will appear.


Fill in your Twitter information.


Add your Twitter username or email and password.


Click on “Authorize app” once done.


You will be redirected back to Buffer.


Click on the “Start Scheduling Posts on Social Media” button.


There will be 5 steps that we need to follow.


Step 1


Connect your first social media account.



In this guide, let’s connect a Facebook and Twitter account.


Let’s connect Facebook first.


Click the “Facebook” button.


You will be prompted to fill in your Facebook account details.


Enter your Email/Phone and Password.


You will be asked to connect either a Facebook profile or a Page.


Let’s connect Facebook page.


Click the “Use a Facebook Page” button.


Choose the page you want to connect.


Repeat the above process to connect your Twitter account.


Step 2


Set up your schedule.


Clic “Set up my Schedule.”


Select your time zone and desired Time Format.


Click “Looks Good! Continue to Next Step”.


Step 3


Set Schedule.


Select the frequency and the days of the week you want your posts to appear.


Once you’re done with your selection, click on “Looks good! Continue.”


Step 4


See how many people are clicking on your posts.


You can either track clicks on your posts or not at all.


Let’s select “Track clicks on my posts.”


Click on “Looks good, let’s go!”.


You’re done setting up!


Good job!


Step 5


Explore your Buffer dashboard.


Click on “Go to my Dashboard.”


This is how the dashboard looks like.


Let’s create a sample post.


Type content in this field.


You can add an image to your post by clicking on the camera icon.


Select your desired image.


The images need to be stored in your computer for you to be able to attach it.


Click on “Add to Queue.”


There’s going to be a popup that will tell you when the first post will appear.


If you are fine with the suggested time, click on “Great, Got it!”.


Or you can change the schedule by clicking on “Change Schedule.”


In this case, let’s accept the suggested time which is at 17:13 of the current day.


Remember, Buffer schedules posts when there is maximum user activity.


You would want maximum exposure for your posts, wouldn’t you?


Let’s trust Buffer on this one. ;)


You will now see the queued post in your dashboard.


You can add more posts and schedule them accordingly by repeating the previous steps.


Just be reminded though that there is a limit of 10 queued posts at any given time if you are using a

Basic account.


You can view the scheduling of your posts by clicking on the “Schedule” tab.


Earlier when we were setting up, we chose to have postings everyday, two times a day.


You will see that in the Schedule tab.


You can always add additional posting times and posting schedules based.


Just click on “Add Posting Time” or “New Posting Schedule.”


You can add more social

media accounts by clicking on

the “+” sign to the right of

the word Accounts.


There are many social networks to choose from.


The Basic plan only allows one account per social media site.


That means only one Facebook account or only one Twitter account in this example.


If you need more flexibility on the number of posts and want to use other features, you can always upgrade your Buffer plan to either Amazing Plan or Buffer for Business Plan.
