STEP 3.

Remove one screw securing the CD/DVD optical drive. Pull the drive to the left and remove it from the laptop.

STEP 4.

In order to remove the memory module, spread latches on both sides from the memory module. The memory card will pop

up at a 20-30 degree angle. Carefully pull the memory module from the slot by the edges. Remove both modules.

There are two wires connected to the wireless card (Wi-Fi card). These wires are antennas. In order to disconnect the

antenna cable from the card, grab the gold connector with our finger tips and unsnap it from the card.

Remove two screws securing the wireless card. Pull the wireless card from the slot.

STEP 5.

Now I’m going to remove the keyboard.

Remove three screws securing the keyboard bezel, I marked them with red circles.

Remove three screws securing the keyboard, I marked them with green circles.

By the way, if you are replacing the keyboard, you don’t have to remove memory, CD/DVD drive and wireless card. Simply

go from the step 1 directly to the step 5.

STEP 6.

Turn the laptop over and start lifting up the bezel. Be careful, do not lift it up to far because there are wires connected to the

bezel. You can see these wires on the last picture.

STEP 7.

After you release the bezel, you’ll be able to lift up the keyboard as it shown on the picture below. Leave the bezel attached

to the laptop.

STEP 8.

The keyboard is connected to the motherboard via a flat ribbon cable. Before you pull the cable you have to unlock the

connector.

STEP 9.

Here’s how to unlock the keyboard connector on the motherboard.

Very carefully move the connector locking tab to the direction shown by two red arrows using your finger nails. Move it abut

2 millimeters, not more. The tab must stay attached to the connector. All you have to do is release the cable.

WARNING! If you destroy the connector, the internal keyboard will not function anymore. You’ll have to either use the

laptop with an external keyboard or replace the motherboard. The keyboard connector is permanently soldered to the

motherboard.

After the cable has been released, you can pull it from the connector and remove the keyboard. Replace the keyboard with a

new one if needed.

Here you can find new replacement parts for your HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.

you can accidentally disconnect the cables.

dp,

i have a dv9623cl (dv9000) laptop and the dvd/cd rom drive is not detected in bios. i have test 2 other

drives that i know work in my other laptops and the drive works in my other laptops, however none of the

drives work in the hp9623cl…

i have removed upper and lower filters, updated bios, and even deleted all partitions, installed xp, then

reinstalled vista. everything works except the dvd drive.

I think this is motherboard failure. Probably bad IDE channel on the motherboard.

I guess you’ll have to use an external USB drive now.

any links to how i can try a bios flash compatable with this computer that doesn’t come from HP???

I wouldn’t even try that. Reflashing the BIOS with a wrong version will ruin the motherboard and there is a good

chance the laptop will never boot again.

i don’t want to assume the motherboard is at fault since this laptop has been taken care of and never taken apart. it

seems to be a corruption in HP’s bios.

any suggestions? any links to how i can try a bios flash compatable with this computer that doesn’t come from HP???

Rastor Ed,

This HPdv6000, fell from a chair to the floor. Looks as if the unit is booting up but no video…blank

screen. Any leads to give me?

Check memory modules. It’s possible that one of them got dislocated. Try reconnecting memory modules first.

Steve,

Hi to all with the dv6000 the main problem for the boot-up not work was the GPU (Chip Creep) Where

the GPU or even the cpu has pulled away from the motherboard. It needs to be re-soldered back to the

MB. We have had alot of problems with this model not a good product from hp. But remember that you

will need some sort of packing on top of the GPU i.e 0.55mm copper plate thats half a mil.

Why did you mention CPU? The CPU is not soldered to the motherboard.

By the way, here’s ho I fixed my Compaq Presario V6000 with “no video” issue: http://www.laptoprepair101.com

Did it a few months ago, still works.

Hi

I have a HP DV6736NR. After I pushed the power button, all the lights came on. 1 second later, after the hard drive

clicked, the power went off. Then the power cycles about every 5 seconds. Is the problem from the motherboard?

thanks for your help

Kenneth,

I also have been having the same problem with it. I have noticed that if I run it only on battery power,

then shut down, recharge & turn back on it works fine. But, if I try to connect the power to the wall while

it is on it will shut off and not turn back on,,,unless I let it sit for weeks, then eventually it will turn back

on. A few days ago I left it on by accident until the battery went dead, now again it won’t turn on. So I

ordered another laptop and decided to try this, I will let you know how it goes, at worst I will havbe to

replace the mother board to get it working again

As a last resort, try baking the motherboard in oven: http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2010/04/06/fixing-

compaq-presario-v6000-motherboard-no-video-issue/

You have nothing to lose, right?

Brian,

I have an HP DV 6000 laptop running Windows Vista SP2. Recently the DVD drive disappeared from my

device manager. I followed recommendations about removing the filters from the registry, etc… I even

ran the Microsoft Fix It tool without success. After much frustration I did a clean installation from the

recovery partition. This did not fix the problem either. This laptop is a friends and I have one similar so i

put his DVD drive in my HP and it worked fine. I installed my dvd drive into his computer and it didn’t

show up. The BIOS shows the dvd drive but due to HP’s bios options, I cannot alter anything concerning

it. My thoughts are something is wrong with the motherboard.

Yep, sounds like a problem with the motherboard. I guess you’ll have to replace the motherboard OR buy a portable

external USB DVD drive.

My last resort is to reset the BIOS by pulling the battery.

I don’t think that removing the BIOS battery will help. Try reconnecting the DVD drive a few times. Maybe the

connector got oxidized and reconnecting the drive a few time will clean it.
