SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network)

• Available to UC students, faculty, staff, and UC Medical Center/UC Health Residents. • The web-based SSL VPN provides a secure “private” connection between external

networks and the University’s internal network. Web-based VPN provides the capability to allow authorized users access to private or restricted services on the UCnet from off campus locations.

• First time SSL VPN users will need to install a client. See instructions below for using SSL VPN with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and the iPad.

• To see answers to VPN FAQs follow the link at the bottom of the Off Campus Access page or go to http://www.uc.edu/ucit/internet/offcampus.html

• Once you’ve downloaded the VPN client to your laptop or home computer, o Log into the VPN via the client on your laptop/computer o You only need to log in once and if you are actively using UC resources, you will

remain logged in for 4 hours. • While logged into the SSL VPN, UC sees your workstation as if it were at UC so you are

able to open many browser windows, access secure work files or library online resources without being challenged.

• Please note: the firewall between UC Medical Center/UC Health and UC blocks SSL VPN use in the hospital.
