how to secure and protect your WordPress site

First, install the plugin.

Open a new browser like Google Chrome.



This will open a new window


and bring you to your home page.


My home page is a new tab.



Your home page may be different than mine.


For example, it can be Google.com.



If it’s different, then open a new tab.


Click this to open a new

tab.


A new tab will open.




Go to your WP Admin Dashboard.


Type http://nameofyourdomain/wp-login.php in the address bar.


Example:http://wpsecurity.com/wp-

login.php

http://wpsecurity.com/wp-login.php



The extension wp-login.php is


how you go to your WP Admin Dashboard.


Click Log in with username and password.


Enter your Username or Email and Password.


Click Log In.


Look for Plugins on the left sidebar.



Click Add New.



It will bring you to this page.


Type all in one security in the search bar.


You will see these results.


This is the correct plugin.


Click Install Now.


After installing, click Activate.


The plugin is now activated.

Let us now configure the plugin.


The plugin’s function is to secure your website


using a score based system.


The higher points you get,


the more secure your website is.



Now look for WP Security on the left sidebar.


Hover your mouse on it and then click Dashboard below.


This is the plugin’s Dashboard.


Click Settings below Dashboard on the left sidebar.


You will see this page.Click WP Version Info.


Check the box on this page and click Save Settings.


You now have a score of 5/5 for this security setting.


Now click User Accounts.


This page checks if your username is admin.


If it is admin, then click Edit User to change it.


If your username is not admin or


once you have changed it something else


your score will be 15/15.



Now click User Login.


Check the 3 boxes and then click Save Settings.



After that you will get a 20/20 score.



Now go to User Registration.



On the Manual Approval tab,


Check this box and click Save Settings.


That will give you 20 points.


On the Registration Captcha tab,




That’s another 20 points.


Go to Database Security.



Check this box and click Change DB Prefix.


This will change your wp prefix on your site


to a random one which will be more secured.


Go to the DB Backup tab.



Check Enable Automated Scheduled Backups.



Enter 8 for the number of backup files to keep.



Click Save Settings.



Go to Filesystem Security.



Go to the PHP File Editing tab.





Go to the WP File Access tab.





Go to Firewall.



Check all boxes and click Save Basic Firewall Settings.



Last one, go to Brute Force.


Check this box so you can rename your login page URL.


Enter your desired URL on this field.


Example: http://wpsecurity.com/secretloginpage


Just enter the extension after the .com/


Write down your new login page URL


so you won’t forget because


this is very important.


Once done, click Save Settings.


That’s it.


Go back to the WP Security Dashboard.



Your Security Strength Meter should now be in the green zone.
