How to repair the MagSafe Magnetic EndThis guide shows a short step by step process of repairing a broken MagSafe charger at the
magnetic end. It won't be pretty, but it will work.
As you can see by the photos, I took a broken and otherwise useless magsafe end and made asplice. After a resolder, the LED shows the computer charging.
Use wire cutters to cut the wire ofthe magsafe some distance backfrom the magnetic end. I cut about 4inches back. You can get muchcloser like maybe an inch, as youwill see in the next step.
I used a utility knife to cut the nicewhite cover off the tiny printedcircuit board. There is a moldedplastic cover similar to hot gluewhich had to be stripped off thePCB.
Step 4
1.) Take the good end of the existingwire and strip it.
2.) The interior wire, which is coatedin white should be soldered on asquare metal plate about one eighthinch square. This plate is opposite asmall chip for reference.
3.) The braided wire coats the whiteinterior wire, and is wrapped aroundit in two different directions. Thiswire should be peeled off and thentwisted together.
4.) Then solder it in place oppositethe chip and the other wire.
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Step 5
Plug in wall outlet and install oncomputer to test.
At this point there are still exposedlive wires carrying DC voltage. Toeliminate risk of shock or shorting, cover the bare wires in electricaltape, heat shrink tubing, or Sugru.
