Downloading NX from the Siemens website Before installing NX the installation package needs to be copied onto the computer intended to be used. Because of the large amount of data involved, this will usually involve downloading a zip file onto the computer, unzipping, and then running the setup routine included in that zip file. This document covers how to acquire the zip files from the Siemens website.
Once NX has been purchased there are just a few steps involved in getting the software running on your computer. The first step is to copy the software onto the desired computer and traditionally this has been accomplished using the CD/DVD that Siemens ships to the customer after purchase. Today, this process is streamlined greatly by the ability to simply download the program from Siemens’ GTAC website using a Webkey account. Once downloaded, a click to open the installation executable is all that’s needed to successfully install the program. Take note that the download involves a zip file in excess of 3 Gb so plan accordingly and benefit from downloading it directly onto the computer intended for running NX rather than copying the zip file from one to another. Also note that licensing and configuration are separate tasks to be handled after the downloading and installation.

• Connecting to the Siemens GTAC (Global Technical Access Center) website
• Navigating to the download site for the desired NX product and version
• Downloading the installation data
• Downloading the help docs data
• Downloading maintenance release data
Overview
The NX software is a large amount of data and downloading it may take hours to complete.
It is best to prepare tasks beforehand that can be completed while the NX files download - especially tasks that do not involve the computer used for the download.
Use your time wisely.
Connect to Siemens GTAC
• To connect to the Siemens GTAC site, go to: • http://support.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com/gtac.shtml
This may take a few minutes depending on your computer, type of connection, speed of internet service, etc.
The array of Siemens software products appear…
Select the “NX/Unigraphics NX” product on the left side of the array.
Next the supported platform options will appear:
Select the desired platform and all available
versions of NX will appear.
Note that NX9 is only offered on the Windows (64-bit Intel) option.
It is highly recommended to read the “README.TXT” file before going any
further.
• Note the size of the zip file about to be downloaded (file #18, for instance).
• Not only is it important to consider the available memory on the device where downloading is to take place but also the size of the extracted data in the computer where NX will be installed.
The README text file will display in the browser.
Select the desired NX version. The “base version”, i.e. NX9.0.0, must already be installed before installing a subsequent “point release”
(i.e. NX9.0.1).
Save the zip file to the location (pathname) where you want the compressed files to be extracted. Generally, it is advisable to create a standard subfolder for all zipped NX versions. When installing, NX will prompt for the actual location of the program.
Wait for the download to complete.
Again, the NX software is a very large amount of data and depending on your computer, type of connection, speed of internet service, etc., completion of the download can take hours. For that reason, it is advisable to perform this download while other tasks can be performed (ideally not on the same computer where this download is taking place).
After the NX download is complete, the NX documentation (Help Docs) should also be
downloaded…
Note that the “ugdoc” zip files are offered in various languages so be sure to select the correct file!
Now you are ready to unzip (uncompress) the downloaded files and install the NX software.
See the “How to Install NX” document offered by Swoosh Technologies.
