How to design the training content

Essential elements for the training content

Standards of reference exist for the construction of mobility training. In addition, Community documents – like the already quoted European Quality Charter for mobility – and the Lifelong Learning Programme itself, require the presence of some essential issues in the training

plan for the people abroad.

The essential elements are:

Objectives and content of mobility; Working methods 1: activities and operational stages; Working methods 2: accompanying measures; Working methods 3: evaluation; Working methods 4: validation of the skills acquired through mobility.

How to design the training content

Objectives and content of mobility

Mobility (IVT, PLM, VETPRO) has a clear training content aimed at the acquisition of knowledge, skills and relational

styles.

Already during the application, the objectives in terms of skills to be developed or perfected during the experience

must be indicated.

How to design the training content

Macro typologies of mobility objectives are:

to make it possible that the participant acquires familiarity with the organisation in which the mobility takes place;

to make the participant understand the cultural, social and productive context in which the mobility is carried out;

to make the participant understand the activities that are specific to her/his chosen professional profile;

to make the participants, during the work experience in the business, perform the work specific to their professional profile;

to develop the linguistic skills of the individual taking part in the mobility;

to develop the relational skills of the individual taking part in the mobility both acting on indirect knowledge and their own self esteem.

How to design the training content

Working methods 1: the activities and the operative stages

The training programme listed in the application form must already include instructions on the methods of implementation

of mobility and the fulfilment of the training course.

Such instructions must be analysed and specified in the initial phase of the project.

The proposing partner and the sending organisations, on the basis of the results of the needs analysis and on the selection

checking, interact with the host partner for the clear definition of the activities expected during transnational mobility.

The essential descriptive issues include:

Information on the business and on the functional area in which the experience takes place.

Information on the position and the activities to carry out. Information on the tools and equipment available for the

achievement of the tasks. daily work and attendance timetable. logistics in the business, like the canteen or other services. the total duration of the experience.

Working methods 2: accompanying measures

Two typologies of activities:

THE LOGISTICAL AND ORGANISATIONAL ACTIONS:

the programme must indicate the organisational methods of staying in the host country.

MOBILITY MONITORING ACTIONS:

we must remember the need to state how the learning course will be accompanied and monitored.

Working Methods 3: evaluation

The overall managerial approach is participative, aimed at involving all the players and beneficiaries in all the stages

of the project.

The information on the global evaluation modalities with the people taking part in the mobility as well,

stating the methodology and the tools of learning evaluation.

Working methods 4: validation of the skills acquired through

mobility.

It is important that at the end of the mobility the final recipients have the possibility to demonstrate the progress achieved

and possibly to employ the acquired skills in their own work place or to enter the job market.

The LLP (Leonardo da Vinci) projects’ regulations do not impose the binding use of specific tools, even though the

EUROPASS set of tools is well-advised. In every case, the definition of the training content should also specify which

tools will be used to validate and certify abilities.

The European Quality Charter for mobility

In December 2006 the European Parliament and the EU Council approved the European Quality Charter for

mobility, relative to transnational mobility in the Community and aimed at educational and professional

training.

The Charter sets out 10 essential points for the mobility initiatives which youngsters or adults participate in, with the aim of a formal or informal learning as well as of their

personal or professional improvement.

Contents:

The essential elements to include in the contents of the mobility training.

The training objectives. The methods of implementation of the training. (activities,

accompanying measures, evaluation). The validation of the skills acquired through mobility. The specificity of VETPRO mobility. The European Quality Charter for mobility: objectives and

contents.
