    HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH MINOR ACCIDENT IN MALAYSIA?

    Recently I was involved in a car accident and I just realized that how inexperienced and

    naive I was to face an accident in MALAYSIA. I would like to recount a bit of my

    experience and some lessons I learned in the hopes that if you are someday presented

    with a similar situation, you might be able to face it with well prepare and proper manner.

    Quick Story 

    One morning I was driving my new Toyota Vios (3 months old) and stopped at a traffic

    light where there was a red signal. A few seconds later a young lady driver wasn’t paying

    attention and bumped into my rear bumper. My rear bumper was cracked and the trunk

    was dented.

    I exchanged details with the young lady driver (Name: Loo Yin Mei) and the lady (Loo

    Yin Mei) promised me to pay the repair cost. Since my car is under warranty I have no

    other choice but need to go Toyota service centre to repair the damaged bumper.

    However, after I sent the estimated repair cost to the lady (Loo Yin Mei), she started to

    give lots of excuses for not paying the bill. Below is our conversation through Whatsapp:

    Nov 27, 2014 – Loo Yin Mei: Do let me know d

    pricing once uve checked on d pricing

    9:19am, Nov 28, 2014 - B: That is OK. I will go toUMW TOYOTA Service centre to repair my car since

    the car is still under warranty. But I will be Very busy

    throughout these two months. So I may take the car

    to the Service centre in January. I will let you know.

    abit too costly

    11:49pm, Dec 11, 2014 - B: Roughly 2163. Melaka is

    my hometown, I stay there. Toyota Service guy told

    me that the bumper is damaged can not repair.

    Need to replace a new one plus fixings and censor

    as well. If you got any queries for the cost Please docall the Toyota Service guy for clarification.

    it's really pricey and I cannot afford it. Yes, no doubt

    that I've caused you trouble on this. However, we

    have previously agreed that you would to get the

    cost and share with us first before you procee to fix

    them. At least we can get a second opinion on this. I

    can't afford the amount.

    was gonna be this much, I would have report and

    claim for insurance which I did suggested earlier

    agreed to pay without insurance. And Please do call

    the Toyota guy for advise.

    were suppose to agree on d price in advance first.

     5:46pm, Dec 29, 2014 - B: Got my car fixed. Total

    cost is RM2155.25. send the money to my bank.

    UOB BANK. ACCOUNT NUMBER IS 198xxxxxxx.

    5:47pm, Dec 29, 2014 - B: Happy to discuss with

    your Father if you Don't know How to settle this.

    8:36am, Dec 30, 2014 - Yinmei: Am out of town, willspeak when am back 2 weeks time

    9:17pm, Jan 19 - B: Hi Yin, have you bank in the

    money yet?

    6:34pm, Jan 20 - Yinmei: Hi, I've only RM500 and

    couldn't afford more. You did not preinformed or

    get our consent about the repair and proceedwithout our knowledge. Pls provide me your bank

    account number.

    6:38pm, Jan 20 - B: What? I think we need to meet

    up to resolve this. My car is brand new car and

    already caused me lot of problems to fix it. We can

    go to Toyota Service centre and ask them to clarify

    the bill. Please ask your Father to call me. I Really

    need to talk to him. This is not acceptable.

    6:43pm, Jan 20 - Yinmei: You did not get our

    agreement and sent d car to repair, this is rather

    unfair. Sorry, This is the best I can afford.

    6:46pm, Jan 20 - B: That's is Why I ask you to go to

    Toyota Service centre to clarify. Please ask yourFather to call me.

    6:47pm, Jan 20 - Yinmei: Pls provide me your bank

    account details and I will bank in RM500 to you

    within this week.

    6:50pm, Jan 20 - B: Please give me your Father

    mobile number. I need to discuss with him. This is

    not acceptable.

    9:30am, Jan 21 - B: Awaiting your Father to call me. I

    think we need to meet up at Toyota service centre

    to resolve this. If you sincerely want to.

    9:07pm, Jan 21 - B: Please ask your Father to meet

    me up on this Saturday morning at PJ TOYOTA

    Service centre at 9am to resolve this. This has been

    dragging for too long and I Really running out of

    patience.

      9:10pm, Jan 21 - Yinmei: Hi, I've spoken to my dad

    and again allow me to reitrrate that you did not

    obtained our agreement and sent the car to repair.

    Hence, this is rather unfair. Appreciate if you would

    to provide me your bamk details and I will bank in

    RM500 by this week.

    9:58pm, Jan 21 - B: I think you should give me a

    chance to clarify the bill instead of rejected me

    straight away. I Really upset as this has caused me a

    lot of inconvenience and time to fix it.

    9:59pm, Jan 21 - B: If TOYOTA can not clarify the bill

    then you Don't need to pay.

    10:00pm, Jan 21 - B: I think this is fair. I believe youDon't want to owe people money and go away like

    that right?

    10:05pm, Jan 21 - B: The only way to resolve this is

    to meet up and discuss further. I trust you can do

    the right thing.

     11:49am, Jan 22 - B: I will go to PJ TOYOTA Service centre

    this Saturday morning. Please come to meet me and

    discuss. Please remember that you have caused me a lot of

    problems and time. And note that first you are at fault and

    need to fully responsible for what you did. Second is my caris 3 months old brand new car at the time you hit my car. I

    need to go to back to Melaka TOYOTA to fix my car as I live

    and work there. I have to borrow my parents car to work.

    And finally, RM500 to replace a damaged bumper is

    ridiculous and is a joke. Please understand what I have

    gone through.

    5:15pm, Jan 27 - B: Hi Yin, you did not turn up at Toyota

    servce centre last Saturday morning. So I believe you do not

    want to settle this. I have No other choice but give you

    three options: Option 1: Bank in RM 2155.25 to my saving

    account for the repair cost. Option 2: You and I go to make

    police report So I can claim your insurance. But Please note

    that you need to pay extra as it is your fault. Option 3: I will

    post everything I have including photos and our

    conversation to Facebook or other forum and lets the

    Public judge and learn from my mistakes. Plus I will do my

    own police report. This will be my least favourite option. If

    you do not response on my request or make police report

    within this 3 days, which means after this Friday 30/1/2015,

    I take you deem to accept Option 3..

    LESSON LEARNED: MAKE POLICE REPORT IF YOU HAVE AN

    ACCIDENT NO MATTER HOW MINOR IT IS. THIS WILL SAVE A LOT

    OF TIMES TO TALK TO AIR AND SAVE YOUR POCKET MONEY.
