Together, these five tracks form the Kentucky circuit, with 206 racing dates throughout the year. There is thoroughbred racing in Kentucky during every month of the year. A typical racing schedule looks like:

January, February, March – Turfway Park

April – Keeneland

May – Mid July – Churchill Downs

Mid July – August – Ellis Park

September – Turfway Park/Kentucky Downs

October – Keeneland

November – Churchill Downs

The first step in being eligible for the Fund’s benefits is to be

licensed and working:1. Be licensed by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. The cost is $10. During each race meet there is an

office where you can purchase your license. You must purchase a new license each year.

2. Working for an eligible trainer. You must be working for an eligible trainer, and earn

at least $125 per week and present a payroll check or payroll check stub (or copy) with each request for assistance

To be eligible you must be currently licensed and working in the Kentucky Thoroughbred Racing Industry for:

• a trainer who has made no less than 3 Kentucky starts in prior 6 months or 5 Kentucky starts in the prior 12 months and 1 Kentucky start in the past 60 days.

• and you must earn at least $125 a week with that trainer (but not more than $38,500 single or $77,000 married adjusted gross income each year).

Maximum benefits start at $7,000 for those who are in Kentucky for the first time or the first time in the past six years and grow to $20,000 for those who have been working in Kentucky for 5 or more consecutive years:

This includes: $ 750 dental benefit $ 8,000 pregnancy benefit $ 5,000 death benefit

• The Fund has established a network of preferred providers in every major racing center in Kentucky that either provide services at discounted rates or make immediate treatment available.

For those not stabled at a race track or training center clients and medical providers may contact us by phone, mail, fax, or email.

• We provide free Medical Services for Licensed Kentucky Racing Personnel

• You need to bring your current Kentucky Horse Racing Commission license and a current payroll check or stub from a thoroughbred trainer in the amount of $125 or more.

• If your unlicensed spouse needs medical attention you will need to bring your marriage certificate.

• If your child needs medical attention you will need to bring the child’s birth certificate.

• When you retire you get whatever is in your account. Retirement age is 60.

KENTUCKY RACE TRACK RETIREMENT PLAN

TRAINERS, ASSISTANT TRAINERS, AND STABLE EMPLOYEES WHO:

+ WERE LICENSED AND WORKING IN KENTUCKY IN THE YEAR PRIOR TO SIGN UP AND

+ EARNED AT LEAST $5,200 WORKING IN KENTUCKY IN THE YEAR PRIOR TO SIGN UP (BUT NOT MORE THAN $38,500 SINGLE OR $77,000 MARRIED) AND CAN DOCUMENT IT AND

+ MADE 10 KENTUCKY STARTS IN THE YEAR PRIOR TO SIGN UP OR WORKED FOR A TRAINER WHO MADE 10 KENTUCKY STARTS

KENTUCKY RACE TRACK RETIREMENT PLAN

IF YOU ARE AN ASSISTANT TRAINER OR STABLE EMPLOYEE BRING ALL FORM W2 OR FORM 1099 FROM ALL KENTUCKY TRAINERS FOR WHOM YOU WORKED DURING THE PRIOR YEAR.

The trainer must have made 10 Kentucky starts for the income to be eligible and you must have earned at least $5,200 from the eligible trainer or trainers for whom you worked.

Don’t worry about whether the trainer made 10 Kentucky starts, the staff at the Retirement Plan can help you with that after you sign up.

Those who have signed up each of the first eight years have between $12,000 and $14,000 in their accounts.

Your money can be distributed three different ways:• When you turn 60.• If you become disabled.• If you die before you retire.

• T.A.C.K .is a horsemen’s program responding to drug and alcohol disorders in the Kentucky Racing industry since 1989.

• T.A.C.K. offers access to no cost or low cost evaluation, detoxification and treatment programs in Kentucky’s thoroughbred industry, on the track and the farm, who are suffering from alcohol and drug dependency.

• A T.A.C.K. representative is available at each of Kentucky’s four major racetracks and at Trackside and The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington all year long.

• At Churchill Downs the office is located in The Old School, 422 Heywood. At Trackside the office is located in the Horsemen’s Service Trailer in the parking lot next to the stable area.

• You can also contact the Kentucky Racing Health and Welfare Fund 502-636-2900 if you need to speak to a T.A.C.K. counselor.

You may want to talk to a T.A.C.K. counselor if you notice:

• That your job performance is suffering because of your alcohol or drug use.

• You are hung over or high while on the job.• You are regularly late to work.• You regularly miss work and/or you change jobs

often because of your alcohol or drug use. • You have incurred an injury while you are in an

altered state.

• A seven bed sober living facility for race track workers who enrolled in the T.A.C.K. program.

• Opened in 1996

• Within a two minute walk of Churchill’s stable gate.

• Owned and operated by T.A.C.K.

• Treatment is the Solution not Punishment.• The program is based on four major building

blocks of sobriety:– Abstinence (stop using)– Accountability– Commitment– Responsibility

• We pay for on-track counselors at tracks in Kentucky, but do not provide for private in-house rehabilitation.
