With ProQuest, it is not necessary to include Boolean,
such as AND, OR, NOT. The less dispensable keywords, the better the result. If you wrote,
“Slavery in the US and the Constitution”, it will include “in the and” as highlighted words that may
have nothing to do with the topic. US Slavery Constitution are enough keywords for the database.
You will notice
when you start writing a topic, ProQuest will assist in narrowing the topic.
You could limit the keywords to areas in the article.
You could add Boolean. By writing OR, we are including
articles about the Constitution OR the Bill of Rights, but NOT articles on later presidents such as Lincoln or Grant.
You will want to
make sure the Full Text is clicked; there is also a Peer
Review option. You could limit the
publication Dates.
There are
options as to the format.
You could choose a type of document.

Click Search.
The database will suggest related topics.
You could narrow a publication date by
moving the round icon.
If you click Preview, an abstract will let the reader know about the intent of the article. Then the reader will choose if the article is relevant
to the research. Click Full Text here or on the page list.
If you cite the article to refer to it in a paper, click Cite.
Copy the citation
and click Done. Then paste the citation to your Reference page.
If you save it to your folder with the Save to My Research Page, you will have an option to make your own free account to save it.
You could email, print, or save it on other programs.
Other Results.
When you find articles in your key
subject area and want to limit articles by a sub-topic in the research, click Search Within. The database will
list the articles on your narrowed subject based on your added keyword.
We will suggest articles that limit the research to our subject that highlights Antebellum era.
Articles on the subject are moved to
to the front of the list.
If you want more new articles emailed to you on the subject, then click
