Salvation and Redemption

1. Explain the difference between being saved, and being redeemed.

2. How does Jesus redeem us? **What exactly does Jesus save you from?

Jesus REDEEMED you: he bought you out of sin & death, by offering himself in exchange. Jesus SAVED you: he rescued you from sin and death, so you can live with God’s freedom, as a “child of God”.

Which picture shows SALVATION – saving someone? Which picture shows REDEMPTION – paying to set someone free?

Listen to the story. 1. Summarise the story2. Explain the meaning of the story

explaining how Jesus saves & redeems us.

** Do you think this story is a good analogy for the way Jesus saved us? Explain why/ why not.

• The spider is the devil.• The spider’s web are your sins. They tie you up and

entrap you in bad habits you can’t break out of. • The spider prefers Jesus’ pure flesh. Jesus makes the

web melt away.

You are walking along in the forest. You are tired, and not paying attention to where you are going. You stumble over a tree root, lose your balance, and find yourself falling into a very deep hole. In this hole, lives a man-eating spider. You feel a web weaving around you, surrounding you in tight bands. You find yourself less and less able to climb out of the pit.

A stranger is just then walking past. He sees you and does not hesitate at all to jump in. To your surprise, the web that tied you up and trapped you, has melted away, and you climb out into a beautiful morning. You run away without looking back. You never find out what happened to the man.
