The target audience that Kerrang! are appealing to is that of the heavy metal/screamo/emo fan. This genre is mostly guitar based hence the guitar influenced title. Another genre of readers it may appeal to is those interested in old-school rock and metal bands: for example this weeks cover features the grunge band Pearl Jam. The idea that is being represented by Kerrang! magazine is one that being badass and dangerous is cool. This violent and destructive lifestyle is promoted by use of the image of the band Avenged Sevenfold brandishing weapons and dressed in black leather and accompanied by the caption the worlds most dangerous band. The gender and sexuality the magazine is aimed at seems to be heterosexual males. These values of breaking the rules and being rebellious are generally negative representations but these stereotypes are thought to be the aspirations of the reader.
