In English, the subject is the person doing the liking.

“Me gusta la pizza.” “A Elena le gusta nadar.”

In Spanish, the subject is the thing being liked. The Spanish actually translates to…“The pizza is pleasing to me.” y “Swimming is pleasing to Elena.”

In other words…The SUBJECT is the noun/verb that DOES the pleasing. The person just receives the pleasure.
