How can one define effective communication? How can one define effective marketing? Perhaps to get the answers, one would have to probe the definition

of ‘effective’. So when the success of a communication or marketing is dependent on something which is an intangible - the efficacy - is it possible then to draw lines between the types of marketing efforts?

Buzzwords like above-the-line (ATL) and below-the-line (BTL) marketing flood the space where brand managers try to attain that singular goal of higher sales. Perhaps such segmentation works while deciding to choose from the wide array of marketing options. Perhaps that’s also the reason why WOW Awards continues to be the singular platform that recognises and appreciates those bright brains which know it best how to delineate their marketing strategies successfully.

Nevertheless, BTL marketing, which hitherto was seen as the underdog in the marketing space, is now suddenly being heralded as the champion. Marketers and their partners who specialise in BTL activities are increasingly relying on the fruits of this medium. Sooner than we expect, this medium will surface to be the sole torch-bearer in the maze of cluttered marketing options. And by the time you read this, WOW Awards 2010 will honour these torch-bearers - ideas in the marketing space which have stood the test of time and have managed to bring home what marketers love - good sales numbers.

The second edition of the only award property in the country which honours efforts for event and experiential marketing has seen an overwhelming number of entries in various categories, and the jury surely had an interesting time judging the entries.Interesting, because they had the opportunity to be WOWed as well as disappointed, all at the same time. The seven jury members agreed, disagreed, debated, deliberated, listened, and finally decided. The brightest ideas will take home the trophy; the not-so-bright ones will hopefully up their ante to be able to take home the trophy next year.
