OBJECTIVEIllustrate /demonstrate throughout the body the movement of the blood throughout the body

How does the heart pumps blood?

Blood is forced into the large arteries attached to the heart. The blood flows on through the smaller arteries, to the capillaries, to the cells and through the capillaries and on the veins, before returning to the heart.

There are FIVE main pathways to which blood flows each time the heart pumps.

1. PULMONARY CIRCULATION is the flow of blood from the heart to the lungs and back to the heart.

2. SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION is the movement of the blood as it flows from the heart to all parts of the body and back to the right atrium of the heart.

3. CORONARY CIRCULATION is the movement of blood through the tissue of the heart

4. PORTAL CIRCULATION is a special blood circuit from the arteries through the main organs of digestion, then to the liver before returning to the heart.

5. RENAL CIRCULATION is the blood circuit through the capillaries to the kidneys where water, nitrogenous wastes and other unwanted materials are removed.

EVALUATIONIllustrate the different kinds of circulation: pulmonary, systemic, coronary, portal, renal. Use arrows to show how the blood flows inside the heart.
