With regard to the events ofyesterday and in recent days, anumber of questions remain and willall be answered over the course ofthe police security investigations.
But I can tell the House this today:the objective of both of those attackswas to spread fear and panic in ourcountry and to interrupt the businessof government. [A]s I saidyesterday, Canadians will never beintimidated. We will be vigilantbut we will not run scared. We willbe prudent but we will not panic.
And as for the business ofgovernment, well, here we are, inour seats, in our chamber in the veryheart of our democracy and ourwork. In all its diversity of peoples
and opinions, this House personifiesthe spirit of Canada.
Canada will never yield toterrorism and neither will this Houseof Commons. We carry on. We willattend to the countrys affairs and
Prime Minister Harpers Remarks on the attacks in OttawaOTTAWA - Mr. Speaker, in oursystem, in our country, we areopponents but we are never enemies. We are Canadians, one and all. Wemay be across the aisle from oneanother, but when faced with attackson the country we all love and thethings we all stand for, I know we willalways stand together.
[This is] a terribly sad day for all ofthe family, loved ones, friends, colleagues of both Nathan Cirilloand Patrice Vincent. We have seen
photos of these lovely men. Weveall seen the pictures of these
beautiful guys, as Don Cherry wouldsay, and our hearts really are with allof them. We are so fortunate to have
people like this. [T]here are people who every day of their livesstand on guard for this country andfor all of us, and we obviously wantto convey our gratitude to these twoservicemen and their families, but
we will be faithful to the trust thatpeople have placed in us.
In conclusion, were all aware anddeeply troubled that both of thisweeks terrorist attacks were carriedout by Canadian citizens, by youngmen born and raised in this peacefulcountry. I share this concern, and Ihave to ask myself what sort offeeble-mindedness could lead a personto reject a nationality that so many
people in so many countries would doanything to earn for their children.
For now, make no mistake, even asthe brave men and women of ourArmed Forces are taking this fight tothe terrorists on their own territory,we are equally revolved to fight ithere. We live in dangerous times, yes, but the mission of our countryand the work of this Parliament goeson. And so does the work throughoutthis city.

also to all the people who undertakethis extremely dangerous work.
I think for all of us who are blessedto live in a country like this, it is hardto appreciate, understand, fathomhow we can have people who sodespise, are involved in a movementwho so want violence, who so despise
modernity, who so hate progress, thatthey can desire to drive out medicalworkers from their community, harmthem, how they can enslave women, torture children. How they can kill, want to kill anyone who looks orthinks different than them.
It is in a sense, beyond ourcomprehension but it is very real andin this struggle in which we areengaged, in which not only our finestvalues must be put to work, so must
be and will be the highest unity andresolve. They are our ultimate and
indispensible weapons and thatswhat these people will face.
