Celebrating the 100th day of school for 2017 On Tuesday 25th July the Junior Grades in rooms 1 - 6 celebrated the 100th day of school. The children participated in several mathematical activities including :

In 100 years - making predictions about what they may look like at 100 years of age, what phones, cars and toys may look like in 100 years time

Using MAB to build the number ‘100’ in different ways

Making a fruit loop necklace with 100 fruit loops

Playing Target 100

Stacking 100 cups

The children also participated in some physical activities where they had to estimate how many of each tasks they could complete in 100 seconds. Children took turns to do the task or count for their partner.

How many star jumps do you think you could do in 100 seconds ?

How many times could you say the alphabet in 100 seconds ?

100 days of learning has already been enjoyed this year !

What will the next 100 days bring ?

Secret dad’s business………

DAD’s, please keep the morning of

Tuesday 29th August free between

8.15am and 9.15am

for some fun activities with your kids.

Be prepared to be spoilt and have fun.

Lunchtime activities with parents Each term we run lunchtime activities for our students. If there are any parents who would like to offer a lunchtime club due to having a particular interest (gardening, sewing) or talent (football or netball), we would love to hear from you. All parents will be supervised by our staff and must have a Working with Children’s check. If you are keen to share your talents/interests and help offer our students some additional interests during their lunchtimes one day per week, please contact the office.

Middle Team News

In Years 3 and 4 our term focus will be on First Australians.

We will investigate:

The significance of Country and Place to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; and

Their lifestyle, story-telling and celebrations from the past

We will also explore Australia as states and territories, and Australia’s major natural and human characteristics.

We are having an incursion by Regional Arts Victoria (Marguk) to support our topic of First Australians on Monday 7th August. Marguk uses drama to meaningfully explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories and issues in an engaging and powerful way. Students will gain understandings of creation stories and history.

Year 4 Camp is between 30th August and 1st September. We will be visiting the Quarantine Station and Point Nepean in Portsea, prior to arriving at the Briars as a link to our topic.

Prep Team News

Preps have an exciting and busy term ahead! Next week, on Friday, we will have our Grandparent’s visit us at school which links to this term’s topic; Our Community. The children will be learning about their family, school and wider community. Also, linking to our topic will be our first excursion. We will venture out to visit some local attractions and of course (the most exciting bit) go for a ride on a BIG bus!!! In Literacy, we will be focusing on understanding what we are reading, retelling the story and making connections. We are learning Kung Fu Punctuation and to use WOW words in our writing. In Numeracy, we will be learning all about numbers to 20 including addition and subtraction, place value and ordinal numbers. We’re also learning some problem solving strategies such as Draw a Picture and Act it Out. We want to say a HUGE thank you for all the hard work you’re doing at home supporting the children’s learning, particularly practising reading every night, it really does make a difference to their growth and confidence.

LEARNING FOCUS AREAS - Term 3

Junior Team News

This term the juniors will be learning about fairy tales, fables and Indigenous dreamtime stories as well as an Author Study on the reimagining of these traditional tales by Yvonne Morrison. This will tie into our topic for the term about Past and Present. Students will be exploring their own personal histories as well as the differences between everyday life in the past and the present such as: technology, toys, school etc. At the end of the term the juniors will be participating in the swimming program as well as learning about water safety.

Senior Team News In Term Three the Senior School’s inquiry topic is ‘global enterprise changing the way we produce, design and market products’. Students will explore the significance of ‘means versus ends’ discussing the role of conscience and reasoning in ethical decision-making. They will investigate design and technologies and address competing considerations, including sustainability and design of solutions for current and future use. Students will then design and present their own product while considering ethic and sustainability factors. This topic will be supported by an incursion by the company Thankyou who is providing a presentation to our students regarding how their philosophy and vision has benefited communities locally and globally.

If you have any of these resources around your house that you no longer need they would be greatly appreciated and put to use in our various Art projects. There will be a drop box outside the Art Room, where donations can be placed. Thank you

Thumbs Up to: Cooper R from S12 for doing a great and fair job of umpiring the AFL games that happen on the oval each day. Poppy E from S13 for making a new parent on a school tour feel very relaxed and informed when assisting with a school tour. Joshua W from M11 for keeping fit and healthy by doing laps of the school each morning. Very impressive! (and the high 5s I get on your way around. All our students who are on time every time! Well done! P21 for their fabulous attendance in w eek 1 of term 3. Only 2 absences.

Student absences are on the rise, sadly many are unexplained. If your child is absent it is a legal requirement that you explain their absence and that it is a legitimate reason. Learning happens when we are at school however, if we are sick, bedrest at home is needed.

Annual Parent

Opinion Survey

The Parent Opinion Survey is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. This year, about 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August.

The survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi.

Results will be sent back to our school at the end of September. We are conducting our own survey to find out what all of

our parents think of our school. Kingsley Park would really appreciate five minutes of your time to complete the two very short surveys links

below. One in asking for general feedback on the school, the other is specific to our reporting format. Your

thoughts and ideas are highly valued and will provide us with the opportunity to continue to improve.

Thanks for your time!

https://tinyurl.com/kppsparentsurvey

This was sent as an email to all parents last Friday. We truly appreciate that 28 parents have already completed the survey. Please keep them coming as we value your

feedback and thoughts.
