Undergrad Hotplates
All hotplate models feature a “Hot”warning light, which will flash once thehotplate surface reaches50ºC.The“Hot”lightwillcontinuetoflashevenoncetheunithasbeenswitchedoffandunpluggedfrom the mains, until the surfacetemperaturedropsbelow50ºC.
AllhotplatemodelsintheUndergradrangefeature a true ºC temperature setting,rather thana1 to10arbitrary scale.TheLED temperature indicator surrounds theheater control knob and progressivelyilluminates to indicate the actual surfacetemperature. This not only provides abright, obvious indication that the unitishot,whichcanbeseenfromacrosstheroom, but also clearly differentiates theheatandstircontrols.

The Stuart® range of Undergrad hotplatesincludesdedicatedhotplatesandstirrersaswellascombination hotplate stirrer models, the majorityof which are available in a choice of ceramic orcoatedmetaltops.Allsurfacesaresquaretoallowmore flexibility in vessel sizes and combinations,for example four 250ml beakers can easily beaccommodated.
The Undergrad range has been designedwitheaseofuseinmind,thecasehasbeendesignedsotheunitscanbeeasilystoredon their side, minimising the requiredstorage space. The units also have acompact footprint to take up less benchspace.

Theentirerangeofhotplatestirrersfeatureanintegralfittingforaretortrod,buttheunitsarealsouniquelydesignedtoallowa retort base to slide underneath, savingvaluabletimewherenumerousunitsneedtobesetup,forexampleinaneducationalenvironment.

Choice of surfaces
CeramiccoatedAluminium/siliconalloyforrobustness.Thetopplatehasathinceramiccoating for added chemical resistance. A700W element gives rapid heating andensures even temperature distributionacrossthewholesurfaceoftheplate.
Glass ceramic for excellent chemicalresistance.Thesurfaceiseasytocleanandthe thermal properties allow very highplate temperatures, while ensuring theedges stay cooler, reducing the chanceof accidental burns. The white surfaceensures good visibility of colour changes,forexampleduringtitrations.

Robust Stainless steel (US151 only), foraccurate stirring. This surface won’tproduce eddy currents like aluminiumandensureaverypowerfulcouplingandstirringactiononourdedicatedstirrers.

The hotplates and hotplate stirrers come with achoiceofsurfaces;availableinachoiceofceramicorcoatedmetaltops,allsurfacesaresquaretoallowmoreflexibilityinvesselsizesandcombinations.
AllhotplatemodelsarecompatiblewiththeStuart®SCT1 temperature controller. In conjunction withyourUndergradhotplatetheSCT1ensuresaccuratetemperature control of aqueous or oil basedsamples, up to a maximum of 200ºC. The unitsautomatically detect when the SCT1 temperaturecontrollerispluggedin.
Accessory probe holder - clamps on toretort rod to allow secure positioning ofthetemperatureprobeinthesample.
Accessoryretortrod-screwsintotherearof all models of hotplates and hotplatestirrers.
A PTFE probe is also available for thoseapplications requiring a chemicallyresistantprobe.
