Okaidja was born into a family of singers and songwriters on the west coast of Ghana, Africa. He learned songs of the fishermen as a child working on boats at sea. At age 19, he was accepted as a professional dancer with the prestigious Ghana Dance Ensemble at the University of Ghana. He became known for his energetic stage presence and dance performances. He toured the United States and Germany with the group before emigrating to the United States. His albums range from traditional folk songs of his youth to interpretations of the emigration of African people. He also plays percussion and a unique style of guitar, combining sounds of his homeland and contemporary sounds. www.okaidja.com
