• These 9 screen shots show how the film ‘Evil Dead’ follow the generic conventions of horror movies.

• For example, the dark black background represents the genre of horror as the colour black is associated with death.

• This opening also features blood in many

different ways for instance we can see a picture of it dripping down stairs and then it being splattered onto a surface.

• The props used also relate to what happens in the film and is typical horror props e.g. blades

• The opening shots signify the gore in the movie and establishes the genre. It gives the audience an insight to the narrative. Gore is also a typical sub-genre in horror.

• These screen shots show how the opening establishes the sub-genre of the film, zombies.

• You can see two different groups of characters: the normal humans and the zombies.

• The credits are in red which is a common colour for horror as it represents blood.

• It also establishes the location as a seemingly ordinary city. This is depicted through the fire station, park, a church looking building and streets.

• Costumes show us the types of characters. We can see some wearing uniform e.g. firemen and policeman, the zombies and humans seem to be wearing every day clothes except the zombies are torn, dirty and covered in blood. This picks out who are the zombies from the normal people.
