Yellow Jennifer Finlayson We welcome a number of new teachers—Mrs
Gail Pritchard, Mrs Karina Morelli, Mr Will Drover and Mr Mark
Kelen. The DoE has appointed Ms Jennifer Finlayson for 6 Yellow,
but her entry on duty is yet to be confirmed. I am expecting
notification today. Meanwhile, Ms Rainbow Tam is taking great care
of the students. I take this opportunity to reassure parents that
all students have settled well into their new classes. Thank you
parents for the respect you have shown our teachers. Students have
been placed after much thought, discussion and careful
consideration. The new year can be an anxious time for some
students, but it is also an exciting time—new teacher, new friends
and a new class. As parents and teachers, we must support the
children as they embrace these changes and build resilience and
independence (key skills in today’s world). As I walk around the
school and visit classes, every teacher enthusiastically informs me
that they have a wonderful class, the best class in the school and
every child smiles in agreement. So parents, I urge you to relax,
be confident in the thought that your children are in the care of
professional highly dedicated people. Please keep communicating via
email, phone or See Saw for all queries. PARENT INFORMATION

A huge welcome to the entire school community for 2021 … a year
after one of the most challenging years in our lives. Once again, I
thank parents, teachers and students for the resilience, compassion
and flexibility shown last year. I know that we are all hoping for
a return to our “normal” lives this year and I am sure there are
great experiences and joy ahead. However, life will probably not
return to the exact life style that we experienced before COVID.
Hopefully it will be richer and more rewarding. I would like to
send a warm welcome to all our new students and parents. Please
communicate with me or teachers if you are experiencing any
concerns regarding your child/children settling into school.
Tomorrow we welcome Kindergarten for 2021. I had the pleasure of
meeting many of our Kindergarten students when they came for “Best
Start”. How exciting it was to be greeted by so many bubbly smiling
boys and girls filled with enthusiasm and high expectations for
their new journey. I am sure 2021 will be a wonderful year for
them. The COVID safe guidelines continue to ask parents to drop off
or pick up children from the school gates. Parents are not
permitted to walk through the school grounds to their child’s
classroom. Teachers on duty at the gate will answer any questions
or concerns. Parents or carers entering the school grounds for
extended periods of time (after arrangement at the Office) will
need to sign in and complete a COVID safe check-in required by NSW
Health using the Hornsby North Public School QR code. Our friendly
Office Staff will assist all visitors to comply with these
guidelines. CLASS ORGANISATION - The classes for 2021 are as

Our students are enjoying being back at school. Our new K-2
playground is being well used too.
The meetings will be divided into Grade groups, e.g. 3 Year 1
classes from 6.00-6.30pm, followed by the other 3 classes from
6.30-7.00pm. Other Grades will be divided in a similar manner.
Parents will need to sign in using the QR Code. There will be a
number of Codes at the door and around the hall.
Unfortunately, there will not be a chance for parents to talk to
teachers after the meeting.
Further details will be sent home next week, after I have met
with the staff at the weekly Staff Meeting on Friday. SCHOOL
DEPARTURE and ARRIVALS - The traffic build-up is happening again!
It was difficult as day 1 was a rainy day. Please note the
following:-
Classes begin at 9.10am. Students line-up at 9.05am. Please be
on time.
Parents using Kiss & Drop in the morning should begin to use
the Zone at 8.40am, not 9.00am.
Parking at Rofe Park, or in nearby streets (not across
driveways) and walking to the school gate will make a huge
difference to the traffic build-up.
There are changes to the afternoon pick-up:-
Parents, please remember that when it rains, your children will
not melt or shrink!

SCIENCE NEWS To kickstart the year off, K-2 Science Topic’s are all
about ‘Energy and Movement.’ So I thought a fun way to start would
be an inspirational activity that involves designing a car to help
our planet. Your involvement is completely optional. The Toyota
Dream Car Art Contest is a chance for tomorrow’s engineers,
designers and creative thinkers to let their imaginations run wild
by drawing an image of their ‘Dream Car.’ The Year 1 & 2 lesson
this week will be based around this activity. A note will be sent
home informing you of how to enter the competition. You may just
like to create the dream car as a family activity. If the
information does not make it home to you, you can find out more
details at the website - https://www.toyota.com.au/dreamcar. Please
contact me if you have any questions - Mrs Fitzsimons, K-2 Science
