Hornets are wasps of the genus Vespa.

There are about 20 hornet species.

Hornet EnergyResearch was conducted by Scientists in Israel and the

UK by Tel Aviv University’s School of Physics and Astronomy .

Faculty of Medicine have discovered that the Oriental Hornet (Vespa orientalis) has a special ‘solar panel’ that it uses to convert light into usable energy.

UV B rays are the reason for the hornet’s activity level increasing along with sun’s intensity.

The hornet’s biological harvesting capacity is directly proportional to the intensity of the sun.

German journal ,Natural Sciences ,published these newly discovered powers of hornet.

• Brown shell is made from grooves that split the light into separate beams

• Yellow is made from "pinhole depressions" holding a pigment called xanthopterin

• Team isolated xanthopterin in a liquid solution, and then placed the solution inside a solid solar cell electrode, a type of conductor

• The scientists shed light on the electrode, the pigment in the solution generated electricity.

Researchers tried to duplicate the hornet’s in an effort to harvest solar energy for electricity production

Efforts are still ongoing to refine the model and seek better ways to use the hornet for power solutions.
