Acknowledgement

We would like to express our gratitude to the project in-charge

and coordinator Mr. Badri K.C Sir for his continuous support

and help. Similarly, we are thankful to mechanical work shop

teacher’s and all our colleague’s who helped us to make this

project accomplished.

Introduction Horizontal Sieving machine is a machine designed to separate the

particle according to their mesh size at different levels. In many industry for example the pharmaceutical, it is often

desirable to comminute particulate matter i.e. to reduce the particular size of a given material.

Sieving is a simple technique for separating particles of different sizes. A small sieve such as used for sifting flour has very small holes

Depending upon the types of particles to be separated, sieves with different types of holes are used. Sieves are also used to separate stones from sand.

Sieve: A metallic plate or sheet, or other similar device, with

regularly spaced apertures of uniform size, mounted in a suitable

frame or holder, for use in separating material according to size.

Sieve number: A number used to designate the size of a sieve,

usually the approximate number of openings per inch.

sieve size: The nominal size of openings, usually between cross

wires of a testing sieve.

Objective

To design and construct economical and easy handling sieving machine for obtaining

uniform particle size of raw materials.

To understand the basic principal of size separation.

To know about the equipment and devices used in pharmacy lab.

To develop interpersonal skills and to be familiar with the tools and process used in

mechanical workshop.

Working Mechanism

Steps:-

Input from topmost sieve.

The sieves are then vibrated and moved horizontally.

Particles passing from lowest sieve are collected in receiver.

Scope And Limitation

Wide application in the pharmaceuticals industries, lab.

Separate compartment of different mesh size.

It can be operated manually.

Linear motion with vibration(due to striking) makes it more effective.

The machine is easy to operate and anyone with a little knowledge also can

operate it.

Page 14: Horizontal sieving machine

Problem Encountered

Due to the breakage of sliding channel, it has to be changed. Several parts made up of ply was replaced. Hence, it consumed more time and

cost. Less skills on Welding. Barring was jammed while grinding. The shaft didn’t get fitted in the flywheel. Coupling didn’t hold bearing properly.

Our Achivements

Learned to handle mechanical tools and work in the workshop.

Developed various interpersonal skills during the work.

Learned to work in a team and help each other.

Learned about various tools used in Pharmacy lab.

Conclusion

We felt great doing the project and are very happy after the

completion of the project. It is a matter of immense pleasure to be

able to contribute something that is essential to our own Pharmacy

department.
