Fifth graders Kayla Moore, Devin Pullham, and
Julia Tozer have all recently become
volunteers at Cattus Island County Park in Toms
River. As volunteers, these students use their
free time to help Cattus Island workers feed the
animals, clean tanks and cages, and gain service
experience by walking the grounds and providing
assistance to anyone who comes to the Visitor's
Center. Feel free to drop by and visit them at the
park!

Mrs. Ferry's second graders have just finished
their reading unit on animals. To show the skills
they've learned, each student chose an animal and
made a shoebox habitat. The projects were very
informational and looked great!
Second Graders Re-Create Habitats
American Heart Association‟s 5th grade Hoops for
Heart and 4th grade Jump for Heart was a HUGE
success! Hooper Avenue Elementary School raised
a total of $7,500 with only two grade levels!
Hoops for Heart is a special basketball event for
one day involving all fifth grade students. It
consists of basketball skill games and a hot shot
blitz shootout. Jump for Heart is a whole-class
jump roping contest for fourth graders. Both
activities reinforce students‟ pledge to keep a
healthy heart while having fun. With all the
pledges students raised and the hard work and
exercise, Hooper Avenue Elementary School is on
a mission to change heart disease as the #1 cause
of death by helping find solutions and spread the
word on how to live a healthy and happy life. We
thank everyone for participating and encourage
you to spread the word to eat healthy and
exercise daily to prevent Heart Disease.
