FEBRUARY 2019 HOOK MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS And who are the MAF Mobilizers? We, the Hooks, are part of a group of men and women who seek the Lord’s wisdom and direcon in meeng potenal missionary pilots, mechanics, IT specialists, teachers, etc… who desire to serve the Lord, usually in our overseas operaons. Our work starts in the office, Monday through Friday, except when we are on a road trip to personally meet with people. It is a lengthy process (oſten 5 years or more) from the me we have first contact with a pilot or mechanic unl they arrive to their overseas assignment. And, just what does a MAF pilot family do once they arrive at their base of operaon? Here is a firsthand glimpse from Doug and Karin Allrich who serve in Indonesia: As we fly people into and out of their isolated communies, provide transportaon for pastors and other church leaders to conferences where they receive spiritual refreshment and make plans for the year ahead, and respond to near-daily emergency radio calls to help med- evac people out of the village due to illness, disease, or injury, we are oſten witness to the day-to-day needs of these dear people. One of the more challenging types of MAF flights to schedule, but one of the most rewarding and helpful to the Church, is conference flying. MAF flies pastors and church leaders from their home villages to the designated conference village. The flights are short, but there can be ten or more plane loads of aendees needing to travel by MAF. In as short a me span to safely fly, we shule everyone to the conference and several days later we deliver them back to their home villages. The hosng village welcomes every plane load of guests with tradional dancing and greengs. On one parcular flight Doug was called to the village of Lolat to fly a baby and his parents out to Wamena for medical help. It seems the baby was leſt unaended near the family’s cooking area in their home, and he rolled into the open fire, becoming very badly burned. Things like these are heartbreaking to see, but we’re also grateful we are here to respond to these needs using the skills God has given us. We’re only able to do our part each day because of the faithfulness of so many of YOU who give to MAF’s ministry and pray for the missionaries on a regular basis. Greetings to YOU...from the MAF Mobilizing--Recruing office in Nampa, Idaho. Kosarek village performing a celebratory dance to welcome passengers from their MAF flight.
