Narrative: Hoodlebug Trail users are exposed to Route 119t continuously throughout the rail trail corridor. The intentions of the proposed roadside planting is to create an aesthetically pleasing landscape to break up the monotony on the adjacent highway. The proposed planting would not only be beneficial for the trail users but also the Route 119 motorists. According to the PennDot Roadside Planting Guidebook, landscaping along roads can improve aesthetics, safety, roadway enhancement, and environmental management.
The proposed planting would be purchased, installed and maintained by the County of Indiana. Since the selected plants are mostly native and low maintenance, the County will reduce the maintenance care of the trail with less grass areas to mow.
