PROLOGUE
PROFILE OF THE INSTITUTION
Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Dr. AIT) was founded by M.H. Jayaprakash Narayan in 1990. Named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the institute is affiliated to visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi and is recognized and accredited by AICTE and NBA respectively. The institute offers graduate and post graduate courses along with research programmers. In the year 2010 academic autonamy was conferred by University Grants Commission, New Delhi which enabled the institution to frame syllabus and conduct corresponding examinations as per the need of the hour.
Panchajanya Vidya Peetha Welfare Trust (PVPWT) governs Dr. AIT, which is one of the 22 educational institutions managed by the Trust. Late Sri M.H. Jayaprakash Narayan founder, Ex MLA Strived hard for the progress in th infant stages and the saga is continued by th PVPWT comprising of great technocrats, engineers, educationists and philanthropists. Being located on th outer ring road near JnanaBharati Campus, Mallathahalli, Bengaluru, Spans over an area of 20.30 acres There are several buildings catering to hostles, canteen library along with well-ventilated classrooms and high-tech laboratories. On can find latest equipment, drawing rooms, data center indoor sports complex, outdoor playgrounds and gymanasiuym. The total built up area of these building is 39619sq.m. THe library has 78993 vouumes of books with 25330 titles, 13600 e-books and 8611 full text e-journals. There are also 115 national journals and online journal through DELNET. There is accommodation for boys and girls in separated hostels with a capacity of 752 boys and 372 girls respectively. There is transporatation facility made for the staff and students from various parts of the city in addition to BMTC services. The Syndicate Bank Housed inside the campus caters to the need of the staff and students.
The Institute has adopted ‘Outcome based’ education and practical learning. The curriculum of every program is designed to meet the program specific objectivies but also on the inclusiveness through interdisciplinary courses and sustainable technologies. Some courses like ARM Processors, MEMS, Smart Sensors and Intellectual Property Rights and inter department electives like Internet of Things (IOT), Web Design, Elements of Solar Engineering, Nano Technology and Operations Research etc., have been introduced for the benefit of the students. Students are encouraged to take up projects across disciplines and along with the students of other programs. As per the mission several industry-based laboratories have been set up and industry prescribed electives are taught to build strong bondage between institute and industries. Various research projects are funded by AICTE, DST, DRDO, VTU and other recognized funding agencies. Many numbers of instruments and equipment pertaining to research have been procured to enhance the innovative research activities.
The Institution has a total strength of 553 staff members consisting of 253 faculty, 205 technical staff and 95 administrative staff. Research & Development, Consusltancy and Industry Institute Interactionison the rise every passing year. In addition to this, good association with Entrepreneurship Network has enabled the development of the private enterprise in the students. Faculty Development Programs, Industrial visits, workshops, seminars, conferences and other academic events are organized to promote the need of the faculty, staff and students.
Getting placed in well regarded companies is the dream of every graduate. This is performed in the best manner by the Training and Placement Cell. Training activities on the campus help to build up rapport with companies that visit the college for recruiting the eligible candidates by testing their employability skills. The academic intellectuality is transformed into a worthwhile employment by 25 companies that visit the campus. The curriculum that is designed to train the students for challenging the interview along with the pre-placement training that is organized by the placement cell are of great benefit to the aspiring students. TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, IBM, Intel, Mindtree, Wipro etc., are some of the leading companies that visit to test and recruit students.
Scholarships are offered to many students of UG and PG from various sources to encourage their academic performance. Alumni of the institution also participate on different occasions to recollect the joyful moments and to prove that they are the support for the institution by notable donations. The Institution has Memorandum of Understanding with reputed Multi National Companies and Universities for the academic purpose, training, internship, projects and research. Patents are the feathers in the cap of the institution. The institution being supported by World Bank through TEQIP program is very supportive for all academic purposes and infrastructure development. Further students participation in National, International events, Conferences, Sports, Cultural activities and project presentations are a pride to the Institution.
