Honoring Our

Mothers

Page 2: honoring our mothers

(Prov 31:10-31) Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far

above rubies. {11} The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. {12} She does him good and not evil All the days of

her life. {13} She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands. {14} She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar. {15} She also rises while it is yet night,

And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants.

{16} She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. {17} She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.{18} She perceives that her merchandise is

good, And her lamp does not go out by night. {19} She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand

holds the spindle. {20} She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. {21} She

is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is

clothed with scarlet.

Page 4: honoring our mothers

{22} She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.{23} Her husband is known in the

gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. {24} She makes linen

garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants.{25}

Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. {26}

She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of

kindness. {27} She watches over the ways of her household, And does not

eat the bread of idleness.

Page 5: honoring our mothers

{28} Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: {29} "Many daughters have done well, But you excel them

all." {30} Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the

LORD, she shall be praised. {31} Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let

her own works praise her in the gates.

A Woman Worthy Of Honor is…

• Gracious - (Prov 11:16) A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain riches.

• Righteous - (Prov 21:21) He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness and honor.

• Merciful - (Prov 21:21) He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness and honor.

A Woman Worthy Of Honor is…• Humble - (Prov 22:4) By humility and

the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life.

• Not Foolish - (Prov 26:1) As snow in summer and rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool.

Children Are To Honor Their Mother

• (Eph 6:1-3) Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. {2} "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: {3} "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."

Husbands Are To Honor The Mother Of Their Children

(1 Pet 3:7) Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Thank you, God, For pretending not to notice that one of Your angels is missing and for guiding her

to me. You must have known how much I would

need her, so You turned your head for a minute and allowed her to slip away to me.

Sometimes I wonder what special name you had for her.

I call her "Mother." Bernice Maddux

Mothers are truly a gift from God

Page 12: honoring our mothers

A cartoon in the Saturday Evening Post showed a young boy about five or six years old

talking on the telephone, saying, "Mom is in the hospital, the twins and Roxie and Billie and Sally and the dog and me and Dad are all home alone."

No one can take the place

of mother!

Page 14: honoring our mothers

I finally found a Mother's Day card that expressed my

feelings for my mother in real terms. It said, "Now that we

have a mature, adult relationship, there's something I'd like to tell you. You're still

the first person I think of when I fall down and go boom!"

Page 15: honoring our mothers

We never outgrow our need for our mothers!

Page 16: honoring our mothers

A mother is not a person to lean on always, but a

person to make leaning unnecessary eventually.

Page 17: honoring our mothers

A godly mother will point her children to God by the

force of her example as much as by the power of

her words.

Page 18: honoring our mothers

Let your mother know of your love and appreciation for her

this Mother’s Day.

A MOTHER’S LOVEAn article in National Geographic several years ago painted an incredible picture of

God’s wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno’s damage. One ranger found a

bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a

tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked the bird over with a stick.

Upon doing so, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s wings.

Page 20: honoring our mothers

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her

offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings,

instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety

but had refused to abandon her babies. When the blaze had arrived and the heat

had singed her small body, the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her

wings would live.

Jesus Compared Himself To A Mother Hen

(Mat 23:37) "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to

gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

Have you taken shelter under the “wings” of Jesus?
