Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2015/16Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies and research in Hong Kong's institutions.

EligibilityCandidates who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students at PolyU, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience, and ethnic background, are eligible to apply. If you are successful, you may pursue your research under supervision by one of more academic staff in the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre (KMIRC).

The AwardThe Fellowship will provide a 3-year tuition scholarship (i.e. tuition fees are waived), a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approx. US$2,500) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approx. US$1,300) per year for a maximum of three years.

The Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre (KMIRC) (Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering) Research Strength

KMIRC has an active team researching into both technology aspects as well as human and organizational aspects of Knowledge Management (KM). Currently, there are five focuses of research in the Centre:Knowledge Systems Technologies; Cloud Services and Open Innovation; Intellectual Capital Management and Organizational Learning;Knowledge Management Models, Theories and Practices; andKnowledge Elicitation and Knowledge Audit

Ir Professor W.B. LEEChair Professor and Director of the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research CentreIn 2002, Prof. Lee established the Knowledge Solution Laboratory in the PolyU - Microsoft Enterprise Systems Centre, the first of its kind in Hong Kong and has pioneered research and practice of KM in Hong Kong for various industrial sectors which include manufacturing, trading, public utilities, various government departments and health care. He is currently the chief editor of the International Journal of Knowledge and Systems Science, co-Editor of the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management Systems, and associate editor of the International Journal of Learning and Intellectual Capital and Learning. His research interest includes manufacturing technology and strategy, knowledge management, organizational learning, intellectual capital-based management and open service innovation.Email: [email protected]

Professor Eric TsuiProfessor and Associate Director, Knowledge Management and Innovation Research CentreProf Tsui joined Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in 1989 after years of academic research in automated knowledge acquisition, natural language processing, case-based reasoning and knowledge engineering tools. His research was supported by grants and scholarships from Arthur Young, Rank Xerox, CSC, Graphic Directions, and the Australian Research Council. He has designed and delivered numerous public and custom-designed knowledge management and technologies workshops. His research strengths include cloud-based business innovation and knowledge services. He has also consulted for many government departments and private organizations in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei. Professor Tsui is an honorary advisor of KM to the Police College, Hong Kong Police Force and a recipient of the KM Leadership Award in 2014.Email: [email protected]

Professor Benny Cheung Professor and Associate Director, Knowledge Management and Innovation Research CentreProf Cheung has been conducting research into knowledge and technology management (KTM) since 2004. His research in KTM encompasses a broad range of methods and tools built on a basis of Information Processing and Artificial Intelligence technologies for supporting the management of knowledge and technology catered for various industries such as manufacturing, transportation, social service, public utilities, etc. He has also conducted research on knowledge auditing, intellectual capital management (ICM), technology roadmapping and assessment for enhancing innovation and learning capability in firms and organizations. Currently, he is the programme leader of the Master of Science in Technology Management in the Department. Email: [email protected]

KMIRC has a core group of well regarded practitioners and researchers with established track record in Organizational Learning (OL), Culture and Change, Intellectual Capital Management, Knowledge Audit, Knowledge Systems, and E-Learning. Capabilities and competencies of the KMIRC are further strengthened by the international alliances it has formed with leading practitioners worldwide.

Dr Eric See-To Assistant ProfessorEric See-To is Assistant Professor at Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to the current appointment, Eric served as Senior Lecturer in the Business School of University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in UK, and as Lecturer in Department of Management Science of Lancaster University Management School in UK. His current projects include application of text mining techniques to financial valuation of innovation and intangible assets, and analysis of online opinions and sentiments with social network and data mining. Eric’s research focuses also on the strategy and consumer behaviors in mobile and digital environments, and business intelligence and knowledge mining.  He studies the role of information and digital interaction, empowered by technology, in formulating business model and marketing strategy, and the practical applications of business intelligence and knowledge mining. His work has been published in international journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Research Policy, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Electronic Markets, Information Systems Frontiers, and Journal of Electronic Commerce Research.Email: [email protected]
