PRESS RELEASE 2013 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination Results Released The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) will release the results of the 2013 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination tomorrow (15 July). This year, the total number of registered candidates has risen significantly from about 73,000 in 2012 to 82,283. The majority of the candidates are Secondary Six students who have completed the three-year New Senior Secondary (NSS) curriculum. They are presented by 514 schools in Hong Kong. The slight decrease in the number of school candidates has been offset by the increase in private candidature to around 11,100. Three categories of subjects are offered in the HKDSE Examination: Category A NSS subjects, Category B Applied Learning subjects and Category C Other Language subjects. Over 88% of the day school candidates registered for two to three subjects in addition to the four core subjects, namely Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies. A total of 49,798 candidates obtained level 2 or above in five subjects including Chinese Language and English Language and among these 47,141 are day school candidates. They are eligible to apply for sub-degree courses and relevant civil service posts. The total number of candidates who have met the general entrance requirements for local undergraduate university programmes has risen by 1,866 to 28,418. They obtained level 3 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language, and level 2 or above in Mathematics Compulsory Part and Liberal Studies. About 95% of them are day school candidates. The general performance of day school candidates in the four core subjects is comparable to that of last year. In Chinese Language, about 52% attained level 3 or above, representing an increase of 2.5% from last year. The percentages of candidates awarded level 4 or above are similar to those of the 2012 HKDSE Examination with less than 1% variation. There was an increase in the percentages of candidates attaining level 4 or above (up 1.9%) and level 5 or above (up 1.9%) in English Language, while the percentages of candidates getting level 2 or above and level 3 or above have dropped by 1.4% and 1.3% respectively.

In Mathematics Compulsory Part, around 81% of day school candidates attained level 2 or above. The percentage awards for all levels are comparable to those of last year. As for Liberal Studies, about 89% of day school candidates attained level 2 or above, representing a 2.3% decrease from that of 2012. In Category B Applied Learning subjects, about 69% of the 4,625 subjects assessed are awarded “Attained” and around 21% achieved “Attained with Distinction”. A total of 267 candidates entered Category C Other Language subjects this year. These subjects were examined using the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level question papers from Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The results of the June 2013 series examinations will be released on Sunday, 21 July while candidates who sat for the November 2012 series examinations had already received their results in February 2013. This year special examination arrangements were made for 1,208 candidates with special needs. A total of 86 special examination centres were set up to cater for the increased demand. There were more than 20,000 invigilator-sessions for the written papers and listening tests which were held in about 400 schools. This year around 1.1 million scripts were marked onscreen. About 4,400 markers, 600 marking assistants and over 1,100 oral examiners were appointed to assess candidates’ performance. Arrangements for the release of results on 15 July
School candidates should collect their results notices from respective schools and private candidates will be notified by post. An online results enquiry service is available to evening school candidates from 7:00am on 15 July. Private candidates can also check their results online and those who do not receive their results notices by post should contact the HKEAA on 3628 8860 or visit its office located at 12/F, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai between 8:30am and 5:00pm on 16 July. Service hours of the Public Examinations Information Centre (PEIC) and the enquiry counter in our Wan Chai office will be extended to provide support for candidates and schools.

The general entrance requirements for sub-degree programmes are five subjects at level 2 or
above (including Chinese Language and English Language) in the HKDSE Examination or
equivalent.
The general entrance requirements for undergraduate programmes of local universities are level 3
or above in Chinese Language and English Language, and level 2 or above in Mathematics
Compulsory Part and Liberal Studies. Apart from the four core subjects, institutions may also set
other admission requirements.

7. 最佳五科的積點分佈(符合大學或院校入學要求的成績統計)
Grade point distribution in the best five subjects (Statistics related to university admission)
Both Category A and Category B subjects are included in the calculation of the total grade points of the best five subjects shown in the table below. In Category A subjects, level 5** is counted as 7 points, level 5* as 6 points, level 5 as 5 points, level 4 as 4 points, level 3 as 3 points, level 2 as 2 points, and level 1 as 1 point. ‘Attained with Distinction’ in Category B subjects is deemed comparable to level 3 in Category A subjects for admission to some degree programmes. It should be noted that the score distribution table only serves as a reference and admission to any programme offered by individual universities / institutions will depend on a number of factors including specific programme requirements, the number of applicants and places offered, and candidates’ Student Learning Profile and performance at interviews, etc.
