Sample Task of Hospitality Marketing

Upstairs cafés have become very popular in recent years. However, fierce competition has led to a decrease in profit margin, making them difficult to survive. In order to boost business, appropriate promotion to build up café image and enhance awareness among customers is essential. Since most upstairs cafés only have a limited budget for promotion, it is important to design relevant and economical promotional tools by selecting the appropriate promotional mixes to focus on. Promotional mix generally include advertising, sales promotion and merchandising, personal selling and public relations. When identifying a target market, research has to be done to take geographic, demographic, p s y c h o g r a p h i c a n d b e h a v i o r a l v a r i a b l e s i n t o a c c o u n t .

You are required to identify one upstairs café, and then work on either one of the following projects:

(1) Written ReportMake a promotional plan by using any TWO of the promotional mix mentioned above. You should identify promotional objectives which you would like to achieve through the plan.

The plan should cover the background of the upstairs café you choose, promotional objectives, market segmentation, selection of promotional mixes, and promotional tools which you would use. You also have to give a brief description of how this plan will be implemented.

OR

(2) Product with Explanatory NotesDesign and make TWO promotional tools for the café you identified by using any TWO of the promotional mix mentioned above.

Explanatory notes should be included to provide description of the tools, justification of why the tools were produced, and how the tools will be put into practical use.

How can schools plan for SBA Implementation

� Conduct SBA as an integral part of teaching and learning and not treat it as an “add-on”

� Set up school’s own assessment plan, specify the no of assessment activities to be conducted for individual subjects

� Coordinate the conduct of the SBA across subjects so that students’ work will not be concentrated into one or two critical months

� Incorporate SBA as a part of schools’ internal assessment program and replace some of the

current assessment activities, e.g. assignments, tests etc
